This will be the first title that will break that rule. I like the version that I have and that review basically says this new release is almost an entirely different film.
dolphinboy, rules as you know were made to be broken, sometimes you have to make an exception or two, but stick with it because it's a good rule to abide by for collecting DVD's and I give you credit for not getting sucked in on most double-dips from the studios. This one obviously is a little different cut so you can feel better about making an exception for this release. 1 dd out of 600 is about 99% dd free.......that is a near perfect score!

I will gladly dd on this newer version myself, can't wait.....

I wish Paramount would have done a "Definitive Edition" with both cuts and a plethora of extras. I'll be picking up the HD-DVD regardless. Between this, Schrader's Exorcist and Donner's Superman 2, I'm glad that studios now realise we want to see this stuff.

Can anyone else think of any other films that have been almost completed but had extensive reshoots? The only one that comes to my mind is the original cut of The 13th Warrior which I would also love to see released.

The original cut of Hard Target would also be nice. I have a work print of it and it's a lot more violent and just a better flick overall.

The ever elusive Back to the Future cut with Eric Stoltz.

Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers. There's a boot of the Original "Producer's Cut" floating around. It's a much better film than what was released theatrically after reshoots.

halloween 6 is a little better with a few good ideas but its still an average film. depending on who you believe i thought eric stoltz only did a few weeks work or some screen tests.

That's the thing. Everyone is so secretive about it. They just need to release the damn thing. Some report what you said, others say half the film. Who knows?

i've got the workprint of american history x. i think it's shorter than the theatrical. the dvd had a few deleted scenes. but basically norton threw his weight around and got some extra bits of him filmed. still one of my favourite films of the last 10 years though.

i think there is a directors cut of AHX planned in the future. the one i've seen isnt as long as the one i've heard that he originally turned in. you often get alot of different cuts of films between preview screenings and final release.

I just read the dvdtalk review here:

http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=27248

It appears I should have kept my old version as well, though I will certainly be picking up this directors cut. I'm not sure if I like the "blue" palette of the earlier release or this directors cut version, which is supposedly vastly improved.

Hmm... yeah hopefully this one is available to rent... I have a feeling I'll still prefer the first release. I definitely like the blue tint/washed out look better.

I hated that blue/tint washout look or that lime green look that seems to appear in evry movie nowadays.

Um, yeah. This is an 8 year old movie. I liked it. The pics from the new version look too "cheery."

Me too. I thought that was a great treatment for this film, given its content.

Well that review saved me some money, and I was going to get it on HD too

I always liked the blue tint, it added to the mood. And Kris Kristofferson is gone too?

Oh well at least TNT HD shows it once in a while.

I very much prefer the first release, but this was certainly interesting to see. Great extras too.
