Star Wars 30th Anniversary DVD Set?

From theforce.net:

Star Wars 30th Anniversary DVD Set Confirmation?

Posted By Dustin on October 3, 2006

We've just received a translation of the recent LEGO booklet posted here in this story.

"STAR WARS celebrates it 30th anniversary !

* The LEGO Star Wars line still sells well - even in years without a movie. In 2005, the LEGO Star Wars assortment was about 70 % of the total revenue of all Star Wars licences in central europe. In April 2006, LEGO Star Wars was about 7,8% of the total revenue of LEGO Central Europe

* Because of the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars Saga, there will be a balanced assortment of NEW LEGO Star Wars items and best seller with new designs, in 2007. All sets include unique parts and figures.

* The STAR WARS DVD set, that will be released at the 30th anniversary, will be responsible for an increased sale of the new sets. There will be a anniversary logo on all LEGO Star Wars sets.

* All LEGO Star Wars set will be very detailed - with many authentic features, heros and bad guys from the movies.

* Different price points for all conditions"

Notice the bit about the 30th Anniversary DVD set? Yeah me too :-)

Any reason you didn't post this in any of the myriad of SW threads where these types of discussions have been occuring for months now?

You think there's not going to be a separate thread for this come february or march when this thing is announced??

I was debating posting it myself.

For several reasons:

1. This is a possible new release of the 6 Star Wars films.
2. Most of the other threads have gone apeshit, including the most recent ones talking about the original trilogy released in its original form, although not remastered or in anamorphic widescreen.
3. None of the other threads talked specifically about the news that I posted.
4. If i posted this on any other SW thread, the discussion will have been lost.
5. If I posted this on any other SW thread, you or any other DVDTalk member will complain that I didn't put this news on a different new thread.

I'm sure there will be more changes, but unless the O-OT is included in a Anamorphic release I probably want buy it.

Unbelievable.

Well, actually, I knew this was coming. It's just so ballsy and cynical to do it this way, to time it so that fans don't know to wait and hold out for the better set.

Unless it's in 3-D, eff C3PO and all he stands for. I'm not buying it.

I have all the SW on DVD and love them, there will be no double dipping on my part. The video and sound is fantastic on all of the DVDs, the OT almost looks HD (Very clear).

I can live with Hans not shooting first, my life will not come to an end.

And I did post this in the other thread this afternoon, but I guess it does deserve it's own thread.

It will be called the Saga Collection and feature a whopping 21 DVDs! Including the original (now anamorphic) movie cleaned up for the anniversary, the new definitive edition which will include new material to tie the prequels with the original trilogy, a bonus DVD for each original movie, the prequels with a bonus DVD for each movie, Clone Wars I and II, Behind the Magic 2 disc DVD set, a preview of the new television series DVD, and in what will make this a must buy... the Star Wars Holiday Special DVD with special bonus features. The set will come in a massive replica of R2-D2 and will carry a price tag of $299.99.

I'm presuming that's a joke, madcougar.

Either way, unless this new edition simply rounds up the current DVDs into a box, I'll probably end up buying it because I have every other version of these movies.

I've got VHS, DVD, and laserdisc. I'm sure if Lucas released these on limited edition video-gramophone pressings, I'd buy those, too.

Got the 4-disc and the Limited Edition releases, and no question I will pick up this set next year. Which will likely conclude my Star Wars feature film purchases on the DVD format-- don't intend on getting into hi-def for a while.

I have to admit, I look forward to seeing what more Lucas has done with the films. (Wonder if he's making changes to the first three only or to all six.) And I expect the ultimate in extras. Should be groovy.

I think we all know that this set coming out next year will definitely be something special. I expect nothing less. I am sure the set will include alot of exclusive items like maybe a LE figure and other great bonuses. IMO the set will be for sale for under $100.

If this Star Wars 30th Anniversary Set includes anamorphic versions of the original, unaltered trilogy, then I will eat a Boba Fett action figure and post pictures of it in this thread. Why should Bill Hunt have all then fun?
