I just saw the TV ad for these DVDs. Not a single mention of them containing the original versions. The main focus was that they were available separately for a limited time.

Is that the ad with the family? That is such a godawful ad. Made me think of some of those absurd "Wal-Mart cured my cancer" ads.

I don't see this as a negative. I'd actually be rather annoyed if they advertised them as containing the originals, considering no thought or consideration went into proper treatment for these, and are 'slap in the face extras' only.

Yeah, that's the one. It aired during 'Til Death on FOX.

A dozen people REPEATEDLY claiming they weren't buying it does not equal everyone.

Yeah, I saw this too. I think it was last night on E! and I noticed how they didn't mention the originals. Although they hint at it when the father says he grew up on these films and now he can share them with his kids.

Whatever, I thought it was a dumb commercial too!

Did I miss something and these are suddenly anamorphic..?

Otherwise I'm surprised to see so much interest on DVDTalk of all places...

Sorry, I don't feel like reading through the 2000 page original thread on this topic...

Do these DVD's carry over all the same features that were found on the original DVD's (besides what was on the bonus disc, that is)? Anything dropped? I'm wondering if I can just sub these new editions into my existing box set and give away the old ones (again, except for the bonus disc).

I may have seen a different ad because the one I saw specifically said that the originals were included.

Nope, they are in fact old 4x3 letterbox transfers from a 13 year old telecine meant for laserdisc. There's apparently enough people who don't mind that and do want the original cuts though that this will apparently be a big seller.

I suppose it could be a good thing, maybe the strong sales will convince Lucas to give these a proper release next year. I can certainly wait until then.

That's my line of thinking. I'm still positive that if these don't sell well, Lucas will use it as justification to say that only his revised editions are what people want to see, and the sales prove it.

And if this really is the very last time the O-OT is available on home video, then I want a copy. My laserdiscs have been nice up until now, but my LD player only has an S-Video out.

I got my Star Wars:A New Hope through the post today and I gotta say even though it's a non-anamorphic transfer and there's something not quite right with the music (it just seems off for some reason) I more than happy.
