purchased the set today and heard popping every once in a while in the first 3 episodes, haven't watched the rest.

this in every set?

I recently watched the first 7 seasons on dvd and can't recall any popping noises at all.

Yep. I've got the very annoying popping sounds in Season 1. Looking at various reviews(www.dvd-basen.dk is a great review resource site) on the web, it does appear to occur in every set.

Not familiar with popping on these sets at all, perhaps the first and parts of the second season if I recall... nothing after.

It's in maybe the first third or half of season 1. It's there on my old WB set and it's there on the newer Paramount set too. I had hoped they'd at least have fixed this obvious mastering error when they reissued it a few years ago but they didn't, which is a shame. I'm not sure why more people didn't get outraged about this and maybe force a replacement program.

It's on my set too.

I was also on the volume editions that Rhino put out. There might be a problem with the masters.

Either that or they've just reused the same transfers for each successive release.

I believe they are the same transfers from the Rhino release if I recall correctly.

I noticed this problem too, on s1 for sure and I think on s2 as well.
The popping is so annoying, I can't even watch these sets, and haven't bought any others either. I should just sell them, I don't know why I still have 'em

The popping was there on my father's copy.

It's only on season 1, and only on (I think) the first disc, or if not the first two discs. Season 2 is fine.
