Mackenna's Gold - I got ripped off?

I just got Mackenna's Gold and it's a single disc but on the back it says on side A is full screen and and side B is wide screen. And in the special features it states both full and wide screen too. However, there is only one disc. And it's not one of those flip discs. The movie is only in full screen. What's up with this?

I am going to assume by this you mean you have tried playing both sides and only one side with the fullscreen version played. If that is the case, it does sound like you were mislead. If you haven't tried the other side please do so. Only one side of the disc may be clearly marked. That doesn't mean the other side won't play. Good luck with it.

Yeah, you did. Apparently, whoever is putting out this release doesn't give a crap about the consumer. Looked on Amazon and 2 other people are complaining about the same thing from way back in February. I would definitely tell them to take this DVD and shove it. A nasty-gram to Columbia couldn't hurt either.

There is widescreen version of this available at 1.77:1, but I've only seen it on Region 2.

I don't doubt you. I was just quoting Amazon.com and you know how accurate they are. Did you hear the 60th Anniversary Release of It's a Wonderful Life is going to be in color. I assume they thought this when they looked at the cover of the DVD.

Just wanted to warn you in case that 1:77 listing is accurate for that release. You can never tell what they'll toss out anymore.

The disc is only one sided. I don't get why the back of the disc cover would say side a and b when there isn't two sides.

Check this out; even the ad has the misprint or whatever it's called.
Where it reads features - wide and full screen formats. They can't even spell "standard" so you know they're high.

When "Mackenna's Gold" was first released to DVD it *was* a two-sided disc with one side Widescreen and one side P&Sed.

About six months later it was re-issued and the Widescreen side was dropped!!!! However, in some cases, the packaging was never updated to reflect the (now) deficient status of the release.

The same thing happened to "Last Action Hero" and many other original Columbia Tri-Star releases.

Speculation is that these titles will eventually show up on Blu-ray in their proper OAR while DVD will now have to settle for these P&S abominations of 2.35:1 movies!!
