Extended cut?

What is this rumor of an extended cut? Does anyone know for certain how many scenes were filmed but ultimately cut for time?

The movie was decent but would have been better if certain scenes hadn't felt rushed for time. Hopefully scenes exist on the cutting room floor which flush out some of these areas... Second best would be a selection of "Deleted scenes" available on the current DVD. Hopefully....

Will probably wait for the "Director's Extended cut" or some such before buying this DVD. Any news of a HD-DVD and/or Blu-Ray release? This film would benefit greatly from the improved resolution.

I'm not sure if I'll but this. It was an alright movie, but it's nothing special. I like the book more.

I only said that based on the reviews it got, and I don't remember any of them being religious in nature. My own belief is that when you have this big of a best seller, and this much hype by having the people involved that were involved, it is probably impossible to live up to it. Star Wars 1 is a perfect example.

Saw this in the theater, and was excited about the concept, but ultimately disappointed in the execution. Wanted a heavy focus on the theory behind the story; had no less than half the movie consisted of Teabing's lecture to Sophie and Langdon, I would have been happy. Guess it would have been more of a docudrama then.

Was hoping to love this, but alas, will not be buying.

Yeah, the movie was pretty much a dud. Even taking into account things that were originally part of the novel, it's still turgid and horribly miscast. I've never seen Tom Hanks look so bored before. Except maybe for Joe vs. the Volcano.

It's actually kind of ironic that the studios are putting the two-disc sets out as a premium-priced edition instead of just putting the two-discer out as a standard release.

This actually makes me less likely to purchase either edition. So far the only I've bought was V for Vendetta. I've passed on "Constantine," "Batman Begins," "Phantom of the Opera," and a few others for this very reason.

I'll probably pass on this one, too, when the single disc is selling for $14.99 and the double disc SE is selling for $24.99. But I would've bought the double-disc set for $14.99.

Even more bashing. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would have been ok with it being a 4 hour movie, or longer as long as it was in the same form as the theatrical edition. Would have gone to see it a second time in the theater, but my wife hates to see a movie a second time

I'm hoping this EE will be like the Kingdom of Heaven EE by transforming a mediocre film into a revamped piece with emotion and further core connection with the characters laced in second time around.

Setting aside feelings about the movie content, its photography was grainy, grainy, and more grainy in the theater where I saw it. Some scenes were more grain than picture. I doubt it will look very good on any video format, HD or not.

The only way that might happen is if all of the extra scenes were written by someone other than Akiva ("Batman & Robin") Goldsman and directed by someone other than Opie.

Great, I'll get the 2-disc set when it comes out.

Also, when did writing about one's opinion of a movie become part of the DVD forum section? I thought that was for the movie section.

Well, it look like the US is getting the worst release. Not only are the other regions getting the near three hour cut of the film, but it looks like they are getting more special features as well.

I liked the movie...thought it was a pretty faithful adaptation of the novel. Had it been more action-oriented, people would be complaining that it didn't follow the book - Howard was pretty much in a no-win situation regardless of how he chose to adapt it.

I think Hanks is just fine in the part, BTW.

1. Enjoyed the movie once in the Theater, no desire to see it over and over again on DVD
2. Hanks did a fine job in his role, he added to the movie for me
3. Did not take the movie too serious, most of the main ideas are fictional, but some people people are taking as fact.
4. Some good twist and turns the last 1/4 of the movie

I was thinking the same thing. I'll probably go for the gift set, since I like to go all out for movies I really like- like V for Vendetta- I got all the exclusives from each store. I'm really looking forward to the next couple months- tons of good movies released, special editions, and TV shows. I'm gonna have to forget family and buy myself all this stuff for Christmas this year.

The extended edition is available from R3. It's 2-discs with DTS. CD Wow has it for just $14.95 if you use this link:

http://www10.cd-wow.us/index.php?affid=14275&pp_nr=1

Plus it's being released on October 12, more than a month before the R1 editions.
