2006 has been a roller-coaster for this DVD collector.

I am/was excited about four releases this year.

Let’s review:
#1 Planet of the Apes ULTIMATE Collection:
the excitement: the four sequels finally in anamorphic + 5.1, extended Battle For… plus BOTH TV series ! ! ! ! ! !
the disappointment: despite ad campaign, Ceasar head turned out to NOT be lifesized; and, neither television series are as good as I remembered……
(But, this will turn out to be the least dissappointing release all year)

#2 The Tick Complete Series was announced, then was revealed that it will not be "complete", but merely 12/13ths of the first season

#3 The Theatrical (i.e. non-effed up) Star Wars films are FINALLY coming to DVD ! ! The ones we WANT ! ! Yippee !
but then word leaked that they are "bonus materials" (we have to buy ANOTHER set of the craptacular remakes) and will look and sound not much better than the VHS tapes we already have

and the DVD EVENT OF THE YEAR
#4 The Complete Animated Adventures of Gene Rodenberry’s Star Trek
(aka Star Trek: The Animated Series) is FINALLY coming to DVD and for only $35.99 ! ! ! !, but wait, no.... after generating excitement (and realizing how bad we want this), Paramount changed the SRP to $62.99

The most? Well, the same freakin' ones I've been waiting years for.

The Other
Inside Moves
They All Laughed
Crack In the World
African Queen

...and about 40 others.

It's sad that I'm almost done getting DVDs I really want.

New stuff that's coming out:
- House, Season 2
- Office (US), Season 2
- United 93
- Thank You For Smoking

That's about it.

An update to my previous post...looks like October 17th is going to be gutwrencher day as both The Other and They All Laughed are streeting. Hmm....wonder what the catch is for having my 2 most NEEDED dvds released on the same day?

Rome Season One. Just seven days to go!

This'll be my first major blind buy as I didn't watch it when it originally aired. But this stuff is so up my alley - I loved I, Claudius.

I think it had more kid appeal than adult appeal. The script had problems and I just really didn't enjoy it as past Pixar films - I'd rent the DVD to see the supplements, but as to rewatching the movie - nah.
