I saw this at Best Buy yesterday for $19.99 and almost picked it up, but didn't. Now I'm glad I waited, after coming here last night and seeing that Amazon had it for $13.99! Now I just hope they don't cancel my order...

Damn you Monty Python! With the correct AR, new transfer, updated 5.1, etc. I broke down and got this.

Found it for $22.99 at Borders (not the best price), but with this coupon and a 10% personal shopping day, I walked out with Grail three-disker and Maltese Falcon three-disker for under $30....Not horrible.

Looks like I'm selling my SE and the CD soundtrack I have.

I'm surprised DDD does not have this.

Snowmaker 10-09-06 11:29 AM

Does DDD just not have this, or am I not searching correctly?

I e-mailed them about it & they replied telling me they only carry the regular release.

Thanks.

I just emailed them too, so I guess I'll be getting the same reply.

I'm sure once I buy it elsewhere, DDD will have it the next day for less than I paid. :(

BuckNaked2k 10-09-06 12:05 PM

DDD will have it soon enough.....certainly in time for their November extravaganza!

If it's the "Monty Python Masters" version, drop me a line.

I don't even know what that means. Its a Charisma Records (Virgin) CD and the cover looks exactly like this one:

Hmmm... looks like the UK import version. "The Monty Python Masters" was the name used when a lot of Python albums that hadn't previously been available on CD in the U.S. (just as imports from Charisma/Virgin) were all released here. The audio was apparently re-mastered, and there was a lot of attention paid to making sure the packaging had all the artwork of the original vinyl release, or at least as much as possible. Those particular CDs had clear disc trays, and you could see "The Monty Python Masters" printed vertically next to the front cover (actually printed on the inside of the back insert and seen through the clear tray -- it would have just been black plastic were it a black tray). Those same albums were re-released without as much artwork, but still in clear jewel cases, although all you can see is a color gradient instead of the text described above.

I'll contact you privately about this, since it may be of interest, even though it's not quite what I was looking for.

OK, then its not one of the "Masters". I had this one imported from the UK like 12-15 years ago or so.

Does anyone know how many tracks are on the CD? I orginally bought the CD 15 years ago (when I was in England) and it only had two tracks... one for each side of the LP.

The new CD has 25 tracks, one for each bit on the album. If memory serves, the "Monty Python Masters" version was also tracked this way. Most UK-import Python CDs of mid- to late-eighties vintage only have two tracks, one for each album side.

Price is now $17.97. :(

How is this different from the "2 Disc SE" UK R2 I have (apart from the soundtrack CD?)

The R2 SE is the same as the previous R1 SE according to this site:
http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=1473

If that's actually the case, then this new DVD has a new transfer at the original 1.66:1 aspect ratio, instead of the cropped 1.85:1 AR of the previous releases. Also it has new extras, as have been mentioned in the thread, although nothing terribly exciting. Also, it added back in the first Sweedish subtitle during the opening credits, which had been missing from the previous SE.

It's still 13.98 at buy.com add something else to hit the 30$ mark and you can use the googlecheckout deal to make it even cheaper.

I ordered it anyway. It was still cheaper than any store or other site.

I don't even see it on buy.com. I see the previous "Special Edition" is $13.98. You sure you're not looking at that one?

I thought the UPC matched up, but now I can't even find the new one. The release date for the on listed is: 10/3/2006, but that probably isn't enough to go on.

It does link to the correct one at Amazon though, where it says available from other retailers.

I ordered this from Amazon -- not received yet. Just so I know what to look for, what's the UMD version; how is it different?
TIA

It'll be pretty obvious, because UMD is a different kind of disc than a DVD, it's specifically for playing on a PSP (Playstation Portable).
