Wow, you have some pretty hard standards for your animation. Yeah there are a few bits of 'cartoon logic' thrown in, but IMO at least it's still lightyears ahead of any other non-Timm superhero show.

Also check out the commentaries. The crew pretty much admit they powered down Superman a bit too much and go about fixing it in season 2. You'd probably prefer the second set.

And what makes the particular episode of Futurama so sad. You can spoil it for me as it is one show I will likely never get around to watching.
Spoiler:
In the episode, 1000 years in the future, Fry finds his dog fossilized. The Professor can unfossilize the dog, but Fry decides against it because he thinks that his dog forgot about him after Fry was frozen.

Flashback to the day after Fry gets frozen. We see the dog waiting outside the pizza joint that Fry worked at. Days pass. Weeks pass. Years pass. The dog ages, all while waiting for Fry. End.

Fantastic DVD set. Decent extras. Although I'd prefer more comprehensive extras, but I realize it's unlikely on a DVD like this. Probably more money than the studio wanted to spend.
I totally agree with ya! This is not only one of the best cartoon shows, but it's one of the best shows PERIOD! If WB/DC could do a Live Action movie that was half as good as the JL/Batman/Superman toons, then we'd be in for one heck of a movie! It's too bad they aren't smart enough to get the writers from the cartoon to do their movies! SUPERMAN RETURNS - GREAT VISUALS, HORRIBLE STORY! I have no doubt that Timm+Co. would create and awesome live-action show or movie if given the chance.

Ok, I thought you all were crazy, talking about getting emotional over an animated series. So I went to Youtube and found the Futurama scene in question (a short two-minute clip).

I'm now sitting at my desk hoping that no one stops by, so I won't have to explain away my watery eyes ("It's allergies. Seriously.").

Are you kidding me with crying over animated series? especially the Paul Dini/Bruce Timm shows?

Watch "Heart of Ice" from Batman if you want to feel sympathy for a villain.

Watch "Apocalypse Now!" and "Legacy" from Superman if you want your heartstrings tugged at. Watch Superman get PISSED. Seriously, how many other Animated series do you know actually
Spoiler:
Killed off a main character in such a dramatic, unexpected way, and actually made the characters react - and remember it? not even the X-men cartoon did it. Spider-man came close but they kind of cheated with that ending...and seeing as how it was an adaptation it was expected
.

I've been going through the Futurama sets with my wife who'd never really watched the show before. Well, last night we got to Jurassic Bark and damned if it didn't get me once again!

Someone correct me if i'm wrong here, but from what i understand it is just a few of the episodes added together and sold separately as a "movie".

Yep, it's the last three episodes of Justice League, Season 2.

I'm still a little bummed I sold my seperate release of it, since that disc was anamorphic and the episodes on JL season 2 are not.

Just checked out Youtube at your suggestion.

Great scene but the ending song sucks. I think it would have affected me more with just some nice, sad instrumental music.

I dunno. The original song just makes the scene more traumatizing. Is that what Groening was going for?

No offense, from the thread title you created.. Are you a single guy? never been into a relationship?
Not quite. I'm single, but I've been involved in a few relationships, and currently have a girlfriend. My question to you would be are you one of these men too insecure to admit that you can be moved by a piece of entertainment, be it film or animation? Or does it bother you that other men can?

I didn't say I fell over bawling. Only that I got a little choked up, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Jeez! Relax and take a valium. I don't watch much animation on TV. In fact, I despise 90% of it other than old Looney Tunes cartoons, mainly because they are a part of my childhood and they crack me up, Justice Leauge, and Superman AS. I only recently discovered those two series about a year ago. Caught one and I was hooked. That's about all the animation I consume, other than Pixar and Disney films.

Got around to picking up The Iron Giant SE, so I expect I'll be sniffling by the time the weekends out.

OTOH, I picked up Batman Beyond last week and after four episodes I'm really having trouble getting into it. Maybe it's the generic villains or the lack of any real connection to the DC universe, but I actually find it kinda boring. Which is a shame because I'm a big fan of Timms other stuff.

I caught Jurassic Bark again on accident when I had one disc on play all. I was determined to make it through when it came on. but once
Spoiler:
Seymour is thrown into the pit by Bender and Fry starts to run and say "he'd come after me"
I just lose it.

There's a short little anime feature called Voices of a Distant Star that gets me in the chest whenever I watch it.

It's ridiculously silly when I think about it as its a completely unrealistic love story about two *early teen* kids, one of whom gets sent to *war*... but a combination of fantastic story-telling, characters, music, and art gets me every time.

I bought season 1 of this show because of this very thread, but only made it through a handful of episodes. Just didn't care for it. At all.

I'm a late bloomer to Futurama, and I've kept a look-out on "Luck/Fryish" in mind since this thread started.
Finally caught a rerun of it about a year back, but the impact was ruined since I was already familiar with a FAMILY GUY episode for using Simple Minds' "Don't you forget about me". Too bad.
