I got my copy today (check Borders and Barnes and Noble, NOT Best Buy or Target).
IT'S GOOD. IT'S REALLY GOOD.
SESAME STREET 1969. 1970. 1971. 1972. 1973. 1974.
I was born in 1971, and there's a lot of shit that I remember on these discs, but they put a LOT of shit that I hadn't even seen yet, like orange Oscar's I Love Trash, goofy 1969 Big Bird singing AB-C-DEF-GHI, and some animations.

I was born in 1981, after watching some these episodes some of the sesame street characters would have scared me had I seen them as a little kid. Big Bird seems too dimwitted in the pilot, Harry the Monster originally had an all fur nose, and snuffy looks scary with the beatty green eyes. I hope this set sells well, because I want more going all the way through the 1980's.

Hope you're feeling better, grim tales! Nice to have you back!
I resorted to buying this from Amazon yesterday, with overnight shipping. It ended up costing a little under $40, but if Borders is the only store that is carrying it on it's promised shipping date, as they indeed seem to be, I think I did okay. Borders is notoriously expensive, usually charging full retail price for DVDs.
Anybody buy it there? What did you pay?
I'm glad the initial reviews are living up to my expectations.

I hope they do a VOLUME 2 covering the same time period, 1969 - 1974 before they jump to 1975 - 1980, because there's a whole bunch of stuff that's not yet included
The Ernie/Bert sketches from this time period are the best, in my opinion and a lot aren't on this set.

Thanks Ethan!
I love the 80's Ernie/Bert skits.
The heartbreaking "I Don't Want To Live On the Moon" is from 1978.
What was the season where Maria had a baby?
I have the "Christmas Eve on Sesame Street" special on NTSC VHS.

That was 1977 by the Pointer Sisters.

Bob, a familiar animated character, introduces each episode. He mentions in his introduction to the first episode that this set is meant for adults and may not suit the needs of today’s preschooler.

And that is precisely why parents should buy this set for their children. The new episodes being made today are too dumbed down and condescending.
Kids are smart. They deserve smart TV like what's on this DVD set.

I don't remember any of that.
I do remember the Slimey in space thing, but that happened in the 90's. I saw Sesame Street pretty regularly up until 1986 or so.
I remember the Big Bird in China special being a BIG deal for me.
I'll get this set, but I need to wait until payday. Whaaa.

Blimey - 1988, so quite a way off then. I remember the wedding too (and the build up).
Maybe that will be on a future volume.
I don't remember when Snuffy wasn't "real" though but in the 80's his first name (Aloiscius - sp?) would be used sometimes.

Watching the older episodes of SS or Electric Company just makes you realize how moronic stuff is today. And how they focus so much more on 'feelings' and stuff instead of counting and letters. I could write on this topic for days.

My thoughts exactly also, from what I saw of 2000 Sesame Street it doesnt even compare to classic Sesame Street, and I hope this isnt just me getting older
I hope Olivia's song "Who Am I (I Am The World)" is on this set - great song.
I also love the "Its Cold Outside" song sung by a little girl as she gets dressed to go outside in the cold. And the Peanut Butter song by the great Joe Raposo
BTW, Maria made her show debut in 1974.

Well, I paid ten dollars for the convenience of not having to drive half an hour to BORDERS. Anyhow, my seven year old was absolutely stunned by Sesame Street. He couldn't pull himself away, even though it was way beneath his learning level. Good stuff is good stuff. I pity his generation that they don't have television like this offered to them. Even the current Sesame Street show is feebleminded in comparison.

Does anybody know around what years the sequence where the girl runs through a corridor while a song plays, there are doors in the corridor that have letters on them. Each episode she picks a different door? That was one of my favorites.
And that "New way to walk", and the remote control that can make stuff go up and down, including when the guy destroyed the bridge, and then recreated it.
Flood of memories!
