Very spacious shelves. Where'd you get them?

riotinmyskull 11-08-06 03:56 PM

Just bought this place a couple months ago

What does it mean? It means that someone as slow as unpacking as me has a big mess for my dvd collection and HT.

Let's step inside the HT upstairs

The guy that built it put windows up here so I'm going to either get large curtains to cover them or just get some poster board and cover them with that and put the posters that you can see scattered around the room on those.

Cosmic Bus 11-22-06 11:38 PM

My treasured collection and humorously meager "home theater" setup. I've hit a point where spending towards movies has slowed considerably, so maybe this'd be a good time to consider saving for a decent HDTV? Sound system is out of the question thanks to my thin apartment walls, though.

Oddly enough, I don't even own the DVDs of three of those posters (Devil's Rejects, Apocalypse Now and LiT)...

I used EL wire on the bottom, if that is what you are refering to. Otherwise, it is just ambiant light from two lights.

Pic of EL wire. I do not like how low it is, and when you are sitting on the couch you can see it, but I plan on putting it up higher.

Here is another image of the effect it has on the base.

Projector is an InFocus ScreenPlay 4800. It's not the best, but it, the screen, and the speakers mounted on the walls in that room and the living room, all came with the house.

I'm planning on taking the speakers that are in the room and hooking up my larger speakers. As long as it sounds better in that room, which I don't see why it wouldn't, I'll take those smaller speakers and hook them up in the bedroom. He has the wires in the wall so I just have to remove the plates in the ceiling and hook it all up.

The big problem with getting all this done getting it done. I bought Gears of War and Call of Duty 3 so that should give me a reason to speed things up you would think. I also bought a Wii and hooked that up downstairs so it's not like I'm in any rush to play any of the other new games.

I did a search on amazon for "el wire" and found some if that helps. I'm interested in that too.

EL stands for Electroluminescent wire. You know those funky night lights that glow green or your watch light? Same thing, just in a wire. Here is a good explanation of the wire. I bought mine from vibelights.com That site worked well for me. The only down side is you either have to pay a little extra to get the connections already done, you you need to have a basic knowledge of soldering and AC and DC current. Nothing you can't figure out for yourself (the EL wire adapter runs off of 12V DC current, so you need to get an adapter for your AC plug. I just bought a plug for inside your house that powers your car adapters and cut the end off, spliced the adapter into it.) If you would like, I can post pics.

I've been holding off on posting in this thread until I got my new TV. I finally got it last week along with my new DVD rack from DDD during the sale. The pictures suck but you get the idea.

No, the pictures don't suck, the Lions do. Are you planning on getting a new TV stand for the new TV - looks like you've outgrown your old one.

Eventually. the actual base of the TV fits on there perfectly but I still don't like the overhang.

Sabrett 11-24-06 06:57 PM

When are we getting Part 11 of this?

That is a great looking rack, where did you get it? What are the dimensions, especially the internal dimensions?

Is that a 46" or 50" Sony LCD Projection? That looks like one I've had my eye on.

You could also consider some thin tubing from home depot (painted to match your wall). I did that for one portion of my home theater and it looks great.

Just a thought. That would probably be quicker/easier than drilling and snaking things through a wall, and gives you more flexibility for the future.

Thanks. I got the rack from Circuity City. It's one of those put together yourself jobs, but the quality and construction is excellent.

The external dimemsions are (h) 21 3/4" x (w) 59 3/4" x (d) 20 1/4". I'll measure up the internals at home tonite and update this post.

I thought about it, but decided to go into the wall. I finally own my own house so I can make those sorts of changes, and I waited long enough to buy an LCD TV, so I wanted it to look as clean as possible. It's just drywall behind, so I ran the 2 HDMI cables this weekend through plastic conduit in the wall, which was really easy as I only had to snake about 2 feet, and used these to make it clean (even though you don't see them anyway)

I'm going to put in an outlet behind the TV next weekend and mount a surge protector behind the screen if it fits. If not, I'll use a surge protected outlet.

Thanks.
