of course a new dvd will come out. in the uk the old dvd went out of print pretty quick around 1999. still sells for around 15 quid. but i never really liked the film. sure the visuals are nice and it has some nice futuristic ideas but it's just a lame average cop thriller IMO.

I had to upgrade and get rid of my snapper case, the video quality hands down blows the snapper version through the roof. However, I was a little disappointed with the audio job from Warner. Upgrade only if you don't like the snapper version and can't wait for the coming BR box set. It's bare bones, has slightly weak audio, the video is fantastic, but save your $$$ for the box set if you can wait or wait for a price drop.

I got it from Circuit City for a total of 14 bucks including tax.
Old Blade Runner video quality: 6 out of 10
New Blade Runner video quality: 8.5 out of 10
It looks awesome..it sounds awesome as well still for a dolby stereo surround!

I bought it and it is worth the cash. The improvement is very noticable without even having to do a 'side by side' comparison. You see detail that you missed in the first release.

Well, here's a side-by-side comparison anyway.

anyway, the difference between old and new is quite striking. Finally! But, do I wait for the multidisc set...?

Damn it! This is one of my favorite films and since I own the original dvd and plan on picking up the multi-disc set next year, I'm having a hard time justifing to myself buying this new release. Those screen shots make me
. I'll probably cave and buy it soon along with the one next year...

. I'll probably cave and buy it soon along with the one next year...I hope they can do something about the audio for the SE though. I'm not just talking about a 5.1 mix; I am sure they will probably do that but even for a 2.0 track this sounds pretty weak, almost the same as the VHS tape I will soon be junking of this cut. I only have a two-speaker setup, but there are still two-channel audio tracks on many DVDs that sound much better to my ears...some from considerably older movies too.
Anyway, glad to have BR on DVD at last in a better transfer. Bring on the big special edition!

The restoration does look very nice though...
I'll probably just rent the current new one from Netflix.
