Apparently the Dragon Dynasty "Hard-Boiled" disc is underwhelming. I've gotten some PM's this week with opinions and links to grumbling reviews (including Running Man's breakdown comparison over at the AsianDVDGuide forums). The bottom line is it has no Woo commentary like the old US release but the biggest problem is the image isn't as good as it should be and (again, rather than actually hire some good translators) they used dubtitles for subs.

They have it at DeepDiscount for $15.41 which seems like a good price if it is both of the original releases bundled together.
they released both police story discs last year sometime. they are numbers 2 and 5 in the collection. unless they are re-releasing them together i assume, they are 15.41 each.

About that Police Story/ Police Story 2 (2-Pack)
DVD empire says it will be a 2-disk set in a custom case pasckage.
So this seems to be a really good deal if it combines both disks with all the specail features.
DVD empire has it at $14.17 for pre-order.

Addictive

These DVDs are becoming adictive for me. The coupons aren't helping matters in that regard either.

In the last three weeks, I have bought King Boxer, 36th Chamber, My Young Auntie, and One-Armed Swordsman. Thanks to the coupons burning a hole in my pocket I just picked up Born to Fight, Last Hurrah for Chivalry, and Hard Boiled.

I am watching Born to Fight right now....watching some of these stunts, I swear these guys wanted to commit suicide on camera. I have seen A LOT of HK action movies, but this is just totally insane. I'm surprised anybody survived the filming. Sheeesh. This gets my recommendation for anybody wanting to see action and completely insane/suicidal stunt work. Watch for the stuff done by the guy with one leg.

I haven't see mention in this thread about any of these movies being cut, etc. Is it a safe bet that all of the films DD plans on releasing are gong to be uncut?

woah...they are showing Jackie Chan style outtakes during the end credits...these guys really ARE nuts...OUCH!

P.S. Circuit City is completely clueless when it comes to the coupons. It took me twenty minutes to check out...the cashier was nice, but had no idea, and it took 15 minutes to get someone to the register that had a clue...even when the manager finally appeared, he didn't even know what to make of the coupons. I was in a good mood going in there, not so much upon leaving.

One of the best trailers I've seen is the Japanese trailer for Born To Fight. Its basically all action scenes and they slo mo and zoom on certain stunts (like the guy falling off the truck and the wheels coming within inches of rolling over his head) while dubbing in a guy screaming "Ahhhhhh!!!!!!..... Whoaaaaaaa!!!!!!" Track it down online if you can, its worth it.

Are there any plans to release Police Story 3 & 4 (a.k.a. Supercop & Jackie Chan's First Strike) as part of the DD line?

I'm not sure about Police Story 4 but I'm pretty sure that Disney has the rights for Police Story 3 (Supercop).

Jackie Chan's First Strike is owned by New Line. Supercop was released by Dimension, which Bob and Harvey Weinstein own, so I think that will get a release eventually.

I just watched the trailer for City of Violence and it looks pretty good.

My understanding of the deal with Disney and the Weinsteins was that any movie released theatrically (which included among others Supercop, Drunken Master II, Iron Monkey) will stay with Disney. So unless that agreement has changed, I don't expect any of those movies to be released by DD.

Hong Kong action films so often have the same titles and same stars, figuring out which movie is which has always been baffling to me.

Yes, the dreaded dubtitles, and also the image is apparently stretched.

So I bought Hard boiled as a blind buy, and I am thinking about starting to collect these dragon dynasty titles. Does anyone have a complete listing of the spine numbers of the dragon dynasty titles?

Is Snake and Crane Arts of Shaolin coming out tomorrow along with Crime Story? I have yet to see the cover art for this release even though online stores such as Amazon is still listing it.

Here's the list of all Dragon Dynasty titles: http://www.dragondynasty.com/films/all

And Snake & Crane Arts of Shaolin isn't among them, LorenzoL.

I was actually looking forward to Snake and Crane Arts of Shaolin more than Crime Story. Hopefully it won't be a long delay...

I have started collecting these dragon dynasty dvds and the only real place I have found them is Borders. Is there a chance Circuitcity will have any? I checked to see if they were available in stores on line but it says avalaible for shipping only.

Yes, both Circuit City and Best Buy carries them.

The only titles that Best Buy didn't carry were Above the Law and Shanghai Express.

Don't forget the $3 off coupon expires September 4th. If you own every DD title so far, you will have only 2 more chances to use them:

Crime Story on Tuesday
City of Violence on September 4th.
