So will the discs with 2004 SE's have all the same extras that are found on the current versions? If so, I guess I can give my SE box set away to my Dad and just hold on to the bonus disc.

Maybe Lucasfilm heard all the bitching on internet forums that they should be available individually and not force people to buy Return of the Jedi.

I guarantee those people will now say, he is selling them individually to make more money. Lucas can't win with some people.

Hell, I'm in. Although, I've actually never seen any other version besides the SE's, so I guess the nostalgia won't be the same... but I'm still psyched to see what they were like back in the day.

I bet you will like the SE's better, 90% of the love for the originals is exactly that, the nostalgia factor.

Even as I was skimming the official press release, I wasn't embracing this fully. After all the years of longing for this very thing, and believing it likely would never happen, news that the original--the genuine article--was actually coming to DVD felt unreal. Truly not real. Had to be a catch.

Now I have my arms locked firmly in place, and September 12 is marked on my mental calendar. Big props to Lucas for going back to the versions before any modifications whatsoever. Even Star Wars is just plain Star Wars. Love the 2004 versions, but grew up with the originals. Phenomenal.

I'm not too surprised, because all the Star Wars clips in the documentary on the box set were of the originals, and they were cleaned up prints too - why would they have cleaned up the non-SE versions if they weren't going to release them?

Scott Weinberg 05-03-06 10:13 PM

I'm as thrilled as the next SW geek, honest, but if you fellas think this was a recent decision, you're as nutty as a nerfherder. Back before the SE DVDs were released, I knew ol' Georgie 'doth protest too much' about the "uncut OT" NEVER seeing the light of day, nope, never, won't happen, nuh uh, honest. Never. Nyet.

Which is kind of like a used car salesman saying "I swear these are the last cars I WILL EVER HAVE!" I bought the box set because I passionately love the OT -- and I wanted that bonus disc. And I'll buy the new ones, too, because I'm just that damn geeky. (Plus: all the new FX toys that were jammed into the first three flicks, those moments stick out like huge digital asterisks every time I see 'em. So I'll take some choppier effects if it means I don't have to be distracted by the silly explosion-rings, the atrocious barge band, the Sarlaac's stupid-lookin' Audrey2 mouth, the horrific episode of Endor Idol, etc.)

Thrilled at the news, but really, deep down, I think we all knew it was coming. Not trying to fart in a happy thread, just sharin' my thoughts.

This is awesome! BUY BUY BUY!!!

I can't wait for these to come out.

Anyone that said the originals do not exist anymore should be post humorously banned. j/k

Numes 05-03-06 10:19 PM

I am in shock. I saw the title of this thread, and I figured someone was asking about the originals again and didn't put a question mark in the title. The fact that the thread was 4 pages already got me intrigued. Is it April 1st? (checking calendar)... Nope. Official announcement on starwars.com! Holy Shit.

Can't wait to pick this one up. Wow.

Cygnet74 05-03-06 10:21 PM

***waiting for complaints that "Episode IV" won't be in the title crawl***

shaggy 05-03-06 10:23 PM

Anyone see the new shirt being sold on star wars.com its says "Han Shot First", again some of you will look at as nothing more than a money grab but I admire Lucas' sense of humor when it comes to Star Wars.

While I'm pleased that the original cuts will finally see the digital light of day, I'm not wild about the inclusion of the "special edition" cuts included.

Smells like a ploy to jack up the prices beyond what a single disc would bring.

Kocheese99 05-03-06 10:25 PM

So let me get this straight, these two disk editions will basically have the disk we got in the box set plus a disk for the originals? If so thats damn impressive. I'll be down with some new disk art as well. If all of this is true, then i guess i'll trade in my copy of the box set but i'll keep the box and the bonus disk.

It may be, especially with so much of that going on these days but I think you will be able to pick these on release day for under $15. I hope they bring out the 3 pack of figures again.

The last bastion of DVD geekdom is coming. Just in time to user in the era of HD-DVD/Blu-Ray geekdom. The king is dead, long live the king.

Personally i'm a little dissapointed by this news.

Why would I say that you ask, well when I read the report on the horror forum it mentioned that each film was getting a 2-disc set, I thought that at last George would give the original films the treatment he gave the new films.

But it seems I was mistaken, but at least I have something for my Webflicks pile.

Yeah you and every other person - by the time you attempt to 'trade these in', no one will want them.

Nick Martin 05-03-06 10:42 PM

Can't wait to hear Vader say 'Bring my shuttle' in Empire, and I also can't wait to not understand a word he says in the first film ;)

I had hoped that it would be the theatricals plus an extras disc, THAT was what intrigued me on the article.

Yeah that WOULD be cool but I doubt they have a lot of "bonus" material that they could put on a second disc.
