I have laser disc rips already; so if these aren't remastered, why bother?

Never bothered to buy any sort of bootleg or laserdisc. My only available source for the originals are the crappy VHS copies I've been carrying around for years (decades?).

I will buy these up in a heart beat even if they're bare bones, and not in the best condition.

Wow, good news. I'm not really a big Star Wars fan, but I really am glad these are being released and will happily pick them up on release day if for no other reason that to vote for original unaltered releases on DVD. And it's kind of been like a holy grail thing for the format. Nice surprise! :D

I'm one of those people who likes Star Wars, but not enough to double dip. I wish I could have foreseen this---but did anybody? So it goes.

THE FREAKING ORIGINAL UNMOLESTED HOLY TRILOGY ON DVD!!! That's all I needed to hear! And getting the original opening crawl for Star Wars is a nice touch.

God bless you, George Lucas. It took you years, but you finally listened to the fans. Now just give us the original THX 1138 and I'll never say a bad word about you again.

Sounds like a remastering job to me. I read the original post to mean that the unaltered versions won't be getting the full-on Lowry Digital treatment, which is hardly the same thing as "no remaster."

This isn't that exciting for me because I have several versions on laserdisc, and several fan made preservations that are outstanding but I will still buy it. The best part is that it gives the Lucas haters a little less to bitch about, but as you can see by this thread alone they find something else to cry about. Its funny how when the original trilogy was made available on DVD with picture quality that shocked everyone, and some of the best extras ever put on DVD, many people said they didn't want it because of the changes to the film. And when it looked like the originals would never be released, all the those people said just give me the original movies bare bones, 2.0 etc and I will be happy. Now thats happened and they are changing their mind.

Lucas is doing the perfect thing, giving the best treatment to his prefered version, but making the older version available to those who really want it.

It's really unclear how much remastering was done. Until we get some reviews, buying 3 individual 2-DVD sets is going to be rather pricey after having laid down $50 for the previous box set.

This is the one decision that Lucas made in the past that I always thought was a mistake and upset the fans unnecessarily, otherwise Lucasfilm has always been a very fan friendly company.

Its good to have some new dvds and a great game to look forward to. That was the worst part of Revenge of the Sith coming to DVD it seemed like the end of Star Wars. I know a lot people didn't like the prequels but for those of us that did the last 10 years have been a blast.

"See the title crawl to Star Wars before it was known as Episode IV"

Is this the first time? I think all the laserdiscs and vhs had episode 4 in the crawl. These sound like they are truly the threatrical versions.

Glad I never bought the new ones, anticipating this.

I've been hoping to be able to get the original trilogy on DVD, and now it looks like it will happen in September.

This was a very good decision by Lucas - he's going to make a ton of money (like he needs it), and he'll make the fans happy. This will also go a long way towards preserving the original trilogy in the form that made it a phenomenon back in the late 70's.

wow... simply wow. I am DEFINITELY buying these discs! I bought official Malaysian SE VCDs years ago, then the 5-Star boots of the SE, but refused to buy the official release of the SE, holding out for the original, original trilogy. Now I can finally buy the unadulterated OT.

Maybe us hold-outs made a difference... maybe we didn't. But IMO all of us who complained about the lack of the original OT need to put our money where our mouth was and go out in force and buy these on release day. Not only for the OT, but as a sign to other studios the importance of releasing the original theatrical version of films.
