"Dante's Peak" DVD covers/extras

The DVD of Dante's Peak has come in different covers. Original featured the same artwork as the VHS--Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton set against a background of a pyroclastic cloud. Second had Pierce by himself with an erupting volcano.

Rewind lists the following as extras:
  • Audio commentary by director Roger Donaldson and production designer J. Dennis Washington
  • "Getting Close to the Show" documentary containing interviews with Roger Donaldson, Pierce Brosnan, Linda Hamilton, Ilona Herzberg and vulcanologist David Harlow
  • Storyboards of Digital Domain still plates, pyroclastic flow Sequence and more
  • Production design gallery
  • Steeple collapse sequence gallery
  • Poster design gallery
  • Shooting script
  • Theatrical trailer
  • Production notes
Do those extras exist on both versions of the cover art? The package with the second cover doesn't show all those, and I want to make sure they didn't re-release the title with fewer extras. Thanks.

I own a version with the new cover but it is the DTS which has no extras anyway. So I can't answer your question about the new version but I would think they'd be the same. Also, I didn't think the old CE cover listed any extras (they're not listed on my old 12 Monkeys CE either).
I also just found this image which I think is for the original release:

They are the same identical discs. Just different covers, just a repackaging job by Universal. Universal does this from time to time, for example Daylight with Stallone.

Here is a link to confirm that they are the same discs:

I own the Ash cloud cover, I prefer it over the newer cover.

Thank you. Figured as much. I also prefer the original cover, but the newer is the only one available in stores now. That I've seen, anyway.

What exactly was the point of the new cover? It's unintentionally hilarious. The old one was kinda cool looking.

Also, I didn't think the old CE cover listed any extras (they're not listed on my old 12 Monkeys CE either).
The original releases of Universal's CE series (Dante's Peak, The Thing, Apollo 13, Tremors, etc.) didn't have the special features printed on the back cover. Instead, they had a gold sticker on the front shrinkwrap listing the features.

Later pressings had the features printed on the back.
