Patrick at Davis DVD reports tonight that there are actually going to be EXTRAS on the DVD.

That's right! Paramount is actually putting bonuses on a catalogue horror DVD.

While it's still the R-rated cut, the disc will have:

- 5.1 (even better as I thought Randy Miller's score was a highlight of the film)
- 15 minutes of unreleased/unrated deleted scenes
- "Clive Barker: The Art of Horror" featurette
- two theatrical trailers

I think what I will do when I have the cash that is. Is order the R2 box set and also get the Paramount release. This way,all bases are covered...hopefully and I'll be done with Hellraiser purchases

Yep... as I mentioned earlier, I put this down to the different distrib/production logos at the start (IIRC, the WS has the Lakeshore logo, while the FS is Dimension.) Actual content of the film is the same in both versions.

Any idea on what these are? Just the stuff from the "unrated" version, or is this actually stuff that hasn't been shown before? From what I recall, there was quite a bit cut out of this movie that didn't even make the "unrated" cut they released on VHS on its initial release.

Also too bad they couldn't include the Motorhead video. Can't complain too much, though, since Paramount is giving H3 better treatment than most of their horror catalog.

Well, Paramount are a bunch of lying jerk-offs and I hold them accountable for this ghastly screw-up:

- the print, while anamorphic and cleaned-up, is the Canadian version. Meaning everything from the Canadian "Special Edition," including bad music cues, are included (so at least we get the entire Boiler Room massacre in 16x9)
- when you say it's gonna be in 5.1, MAKE SURE YOU F * * KIN' DELIVER A 5.1 TRACK!!! Music wise, Hell on Earth is NEVER gonna compare with the other six I own!
- Where's the damn deleted scenes, you liars?!
- Also, was there gonna be two deleted scenes or was that another lie on Paramount's sick behalf, too?

I swear to God, will Paramount EVER do a DVD right?!

why does this not surprise me... guess the Region 2 box is the definitve special edition of this film.

I am confused by that rant and would like a real dvd review if anyone can find one.

Here's what I'm ranting about:

- The movie is neither the US unrated or the international unrated version. It's the Canadian rated version in anamorphic widescreen (which means it includes the longer sex scene with J.P. and Sandy, Sandy's hooking in the face, the more graphic cut of J.P.'s creation, and the Boiler Room massacre in it's entirety), but that also means it comes with the same two terrible music cutting cues that the Canadian "Special Edition" had.

- Paramount lied about remastering the sound in 5.1, the 15 minutes of deleted scenes, and a second trailer (if one even existed, cause the one on the DVD just BLOWS, except for one cool line deleted from the film where Pinhead says "It's good to be back.")

Because at least the UK cares about its consumers. Why do you think Brick is better on DVD?

I'll take the two bad music cues in exchange for the Uncut version anyday.

I'm still a little concerned. I've been reading through the pages so far, and all the discussion over what versions are censored and which aren't. I bought the new release today, and was wondering if it is the uncensored version? I don't care about the music, I just wanted confirmation as to what exactly was cut out of this new release, if any scenes at all.

I have the original Uncut VHS, and this DVD is the exact same as that... only Widescreen. So you can breathe easy, this is the same as the Uncut U.S. Cut. Other than the two music cues.

Alright, so....the dvd at least contains all the graphic unrated material from what it sounds like? But it's not the full unrated version which included extra charecter scenes?

If that's the case,then I will definitely be picking this up!

But before I do,I'd like to know what the two 'bad' music cues are. Please don't tell me that "What Girls Want" and "Divine Thing" are missing from the club scenes. Those are two of my favorite early 90's rock songs and rule on the soundtrack.

And the R version does run 91 minutes(not 93 minutes). I picked it up on VHS at Hollywood Video which was selling off all their VHS stock. And it's a quite 'dry' version of the film since all the major gore is missing. The boiler room massacre is like 20 seconds long with mostly only glimpses of people running and falling before it's overwith. And that's the major gore set piece of the film,so all the build up to it and then the 'dry' abrupt massacre is disappointing and ruins the effectiveness.

And I'm not upset over the lack of 5.1,since 2.0 stereo surround was the original audio mix in the first place and that's how I want it

Yes, checking again those two additional scenes are missing on the new DVD. So yeah, it's the Canadian R rated cut. But at least all the gore is there. And those two scenes are no big deal anyway. The area of 'The Boiler Room' where the coffee scene takes place doesn't really feel right given the nature of the club. Why does it have a Coffee House attached to a Goth/S&Mish nightclub?

The club also appears to have a fancy restaurant attached to it also,from how it looks when Terry Ferrel first meets JP in the club. I never understood that either

But I did like the 'coffee cup reflection' shot though in that added scene. But oh well,I can live without it as long as the graphic unrated stuff is intact.

Now about the two music cues,what are they?

The first: In the scene where Pinhead is about to kill Joey as Vietnam morphs into the bunker, there is a jarring change in the pace of music. In the VHS versions, the music's pace flows solidly throughout.

The second: At the very end of the movie, when the Hellraiser theme is playing in the Merchant building, as it cuts to black, a jail cell door slamming sound is made. Then it fades into Motorhead's "Hellraiser." In the VHS versions, the theme goes on through the beginning of the cast credits. Then it goes to "Hellraiser."

Because J.P. was a rich-boy freak.

With all the money he inherited from his parents' murder, he could do what he wanted.

I see it as a refelection of the J.P. character, clashing sides. The club itself was his true self and the coffee bar was a side he presented to people: nice looking and clean and stuff like that.

Is the Canadian SE open matte or P&S? I know OAR is preferred, but the amount of re-buys is killing me. At least with open matte, I can simulate WS on my TV.

That makes sense and is a good reading of the possible symbolism.

Now it looks like I will be getting the dvd,since the music changes don't sound drastic. I'll see how it is when I give it a whirl myself.

I have the Canadian Special Edition and it's nothing special. I'm trying to decide if it's worth upgrading to this version. What do you think?

I quite impressed. Nice audio/video and it seems some of you have seen the extras, but I didn't (know I have), that I thought it would be 2 mins or something, but was shocked to see it at 30 mins.
