Beyond the Valley of the Dolls and Valley of the Dolls-two disc action!
It's official! The Criterion release didn't happen but Fox has committed to give these titles some love.
I'll be getting BtVotD for sure and will probably rent VotD.
Fox Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of The Valley of the Dolls (Special Edition) and Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (Special Edition) for 13th June 2006 priced at $26.98 SRP each. These two-disc special edition releases of the cult Russ Meyer titles offer the following features…
The Valley of the Dolls (Special Edition) - Lured by their dreams of fame and fortune, three ambitious young women enter the world of show business and discover how easy it is to sink into a celebrity nightmare of ego, alcohol and 'pills' - the beloved "dolls." A prim New Englander (Barbara Parkins) unexpectedly skyrockets from her job as secretary in a talent agency to a glamorous TV model. A determined singer (Patty Duke) finds that Hollywood success can also spell self-destruction. And a beautiful sex symbol (Sharon Tate) is torn between the money commands and the shame of feeling exploited. Based on Jacqueline Susann's phenomenal best-seller about the underside of Hollywood, this fascinating melodrama was once seen as a shocking behind-the-scenes look at how show business creates instant stars, destroys romances and changes personalities forever.

Valley Of The Dolls most certainly! This is one of my long awaited titles to be released on DVD. Now, Beyond The Valley of the Dolls is a totally different story, which is a forgettable, astrocious film by any video format. An insult to it's predecessor.

I'd like to get both of these to check them out, as I have never seen them. However, their current price point is a bit high for a blind buy in this case. I may rent them, and wait hopefully for a price drop if I like one or both.

Wouldn't ya know it!
The wife has been after these for a while and I finally picked up the Region 2 release which came packaged together for about $12.
Since we probably won't be too bothered about the extras or unless I read otherwise, we'll stick with these.

He's always admitted to being proud of it.
Russ loved to talk about Roger liking large black women (he married one too) and getting head (from women) while they were working together.
There's a quote around about him getting it pool-side and flopping around like a seal.

Thanks Buford! Now I've gotta go jam a crochet needle through my brain to get that mental image out!

That's odd. I'd posted large images via ImageShack and they're now gone.
edit to add: now they're back.

It looks like Farrah Fawcett but she wasn't in the flick. Or was she? I almost want to think she was an uncredited partygoer.

Mod note: Since you've obviously missed it please read the post on threadcrapping http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=235044 There are appropriate places for commentary and opinion on movies themselves... the threads about the DVD release is not one of them though.
