I saw BtVotD on Fox Movie Channel about a year ago. That movie was crazy. I'll buy or at least rent it just for the commentary alone.

Turns out that's not the real cover. That was a mockup of when they were considering a double feature of Myra Breckenridge with it (hence Farrah Fawcett in the pink). Here's the real cover:

But this pisses me off. 1.33:1 fullscreen??!!! If any movie ever demanded full widescreen 2.35:1, this is it.

ERF!! Please say the full-screen is just a mistake.
I've rechecked every reference I could find on the specs, and none of them actually mention the aspect ratio (except the above link).

OMG, I hope it's not full-screen. I've seen it on cable in freakin' widescreen!

I thought the video I rented years ago was widescreen. Maybe I'm wrong.

But I was right that it was Farrah Fawcett in the top pic so that's not a good sign. Maybe.

edit to add: I remember the video had a terrible problem w/going dark and light due to copy protection. And I'm also thinking it was the first video where I noticed the problem called pan and scan. I seem to remember shots where it would go from one person and do that scan thing to the other. *shudder

I still have my Widescreen LD, but I dont think Fox EVER released a pan and scan, so I'm guessing this is a mistake?

I hope it's a mistake and it will really be widescreen.

Much better cover featuring The Kelly Affair/The Carrie Nations

The barebones Aussie discs I have are both widescreen....so I have a feeling the Region one will be too. My thought is: why have such a nice SE in fullscreen?

Its funny , although I enjoy both (esp BVOD) and will get both, it is Valley of the Dolls that is regarded by some as one of the worst movies of all time (it was even in a book touting bad movies) while BVOD actually recieved a good bit of critical acclaim... not all like it though

I went to Tower last night to pick up the Criterion "Dazed and Confused" and the SE of "Mommie Dearest" and they already had "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" out....so I snapped it up.

You'll never believe what Roger Ebert made his DVD pick of the week!

During DDD's 20% sale it's $15.42, for those interested.

The Carrie Nation rocks!

Yes, ordering this today along with Cemetary Man - I'm a happy camper (pun intended).

I just read on another forum that Beyond the Valley of the Dolls and Valley of the Dolls is a two-fer at Costco for $20.99.

And I bought BVD about 24 hours ago.

I have a few cds of the soundtrack. I believe they were questionable releases as they even included dialogue.

If anyone sees reviews of the sets, please post them or the links here. I'll be interested in seeing those. Hell, I'd be interested in seeing reviews from the original release of the movies.

I have the UK CD of the soundtrack. It features both the original Lynn Carey vocals (used in the film) and the vocals by the other gal who did 'em for the LP. Ms. Carey's vocals are the best.

Also has some groovy tunes by The Strawberry Alarm Clock
