Thanks for the news! Looks like another WB winner.

YES! Beautiful. I was kinda worried about these Warner boxes; there have been few recently that I've been interested. This changes that trend

Hm, I'm the opposite. This set and the third noir box leave me cold. I think the ratio of B-material to A-material in these sets is substantially higher than before. But I'll see what the (film) critics say.

San Quentin and G-men are great movies....well worth the cost of the entire box...can't wait

I think the release date is actually July 18, 2006. June 18 is a Sunday.

As far as the Gangsters set is concerned, you're right. You can't compare these six to the first box. The Public Enemy, White Heat, Angels with Dirty Faces, Little Caesar, The Petrified Forest & The Roaring Twenties were six of the most popular examples of the genre. That being said, don't sell this new set short. While some of the titles are lesser known, they are all wonderful films and are more than worth the price of admission. My favorite of these is City for Conquest, which has a script that seems to string together every possible Warner's plotline and cliche. The score is the most memorable of the genre. I haven't seen it in 15 years and I can still hum the title tune (a poor man's Rhapsody in Blue). Plus, Elia Kazan's rare acting appearance is not to be missed. This one and the rest are as much fun as the first box and they don't appear on TV anywhere near as often. I can't wait.

Why no commentary on th best film of the group "City for Conquest?

Oh, man, I love those Warner Night at the Movies! Glad they included them here and it looks like no Maltin (who I found a bit annoying on the first set).

Keep them coming, Warner!

Not underwhelmed at all. These are all titles that my library has needed and is more than ready for.

I'm there. I got a bit excited reading the title, thinking I had misread release dates elsewhere of being in July. I don't wanna wait. For a bit over 40 bucks, this set's a steal.

Anybody see this in Canada yet? The websites are all over the place. Amazon.ca had this in stock this afternoon but three hours later the release date was changed to August 29. It had originaly been August 15. Futurershop.ca said it has had it in stock but doesn't anymore. Cinemaclock.ca says August 15.

While you're at it, anybody spy the Noir box 3?

Not yet
No, I've looked all over the Canadian city I live in and neither of these box sets are available yet. It seems that Warner has decided to screw over the Canadian consumer once more by once again delaying this box set without providing any sort of explanation.

Individual titles available in Canada
Hey, ViewAskew. I was at Best Buy today and noticed that they did, indeed, get a number of these titles in (I saw Bullets or Ballots, Each Dawn I Die, and City for Conquest, but I didn't bother checking for the others). However, they were only the individual titles, not the actual boxset. Furthermore, they were something like $16-18 each, which means you'll be paying way more than you'd pay for the boxset. This astounds me even further, for, if these titles are available individually, why isn't the boxset available at Canadian retailers??? Alas, I'll just wait until amazon.ca ships the order I placed months ago. Any reasonable explanation from Warner does not seem to be forthcoming.

yeah, I saw the individual titles too (though none for Noir Box #3). I certainly do not hope it is something like with the classic Comedy collection where a film is in the set is held up by Canadian rights. Amazon.ca has moved the Tough Guys set to Aug. 29th now and Noir #3 back to next week. This gets stranger and stranger. Keep me posted on any developments and thanks.

Set is being re-released on March 25th and re-labeled as the Gangster Collection Vol 2. It includes new artwork matching Vol 1 re-release and Vol 3.
