I only sampled a tiny bit (up to Rupret shooting the revived lawyer?), so I want to reserve judgement until I've rewatched the movie. Preliminarily, It looks sorta grainy to me, but I think that that's the look that the filmmakers were going for. It does have two audio options Dolby 5.0 and 2.0 methinks. I think this is the dubbed version, it makes no mention of having original Italian language track anywhere (unless I missed it, I really barely looked at the box and am relying on my flawed memory). I have some time to procrastinate since my review is not due till June 13th .

I wouldn't necessarily call Italian the "original" soundtrack. Like many European productions, the multi-national cast spoke a mix of languages on camera which were then dubbed over into one consistent language track. Rupert Everett was certainly not speaking Italian on set.

The only audio tracks I've ever seen on this is the English one and a German dub. The English track is the "official" one.

Okay, that makes sense. It's rather obvious that many languages are being spoken, perhaps I shouldnt have used the term dubbing.

BTW, is it true that back in the day that Italian movies were shot "silent" and the voices were dubbed in in post production? I seem to recall hearing that somewhere. I doubt they do that currently (or do they?).

Yes, it's true. All of Fellini's movies were shot this way, for example (he was notorious for yelling commands to the actors while the cameras were rolling. He also had a habit of not actually writing the dialogue until post-production, instructing the actors to voice nonsense lines just to make their lips move).

Whether anyone still does this I'm not sure.

The Italian DVD has English and Italian tracks.

As for which one Soavi prefers, I have no clue. However, I have no problem putting both the English and Italian tracks on equal "official" footings.

PS..Running time listed on packaging is 99 mins.
Good to know the running minutes and about the extras. Haven't heard much of anything about them. To me when I saw the list, it looked weak.

Keep in mind that this should be available for the DDD sale on 6/13... and should be less than $10.

I saw a few at my local Best Buy ($15.xx though), so if you want it early then check out your local Best Buy as well. I held off because I'm going to buy it in the DDD sale.

I sure hope DDD has a carload of these, because it looks like lots of folks are ready to pounce on Tuesday morning!

I've held off on buying this movie for too long.

I have a region-free player. Should I get the Anchor Bay version or the R2 PAL Medusa version. How does the image quality on both DVDs differ?

Not sure if this'll be a YMMV....
I found one copy of "Cemetery Man" at my local (South Hills) Pittsburgh FYE this evening. It was marked $14.99, but rang up for $11.99 at the register.

Here are some comparison grabs from DVDMANIACS: http://www.dvdmaniacs.net/Reviews/A-...yman_comp.html

I can't vouch for DVDMANIACS, nor whether those screengrabs are accurate depictions of the transfers. If they are, then there appear to be some trade-offs with either choice, although on-balance the Medusa release looks better to me than Anchor Bay's. AB's transfer certainly appears contrast-boosted in those grabs (the whitest whites in a couple of shots look blown-out to me). As well, the blacks have a tendency toward grey in the AB release. On the other hand, the AB might be a tad sharper than the Medusa, but this apparent sharpness can be a function of the boosted contrast, and appear more like noise when the frames are in motion (like edge enhancement).

However, I've seen comparisons on non-Beaver sites before where the contrast was blown out of wack because the guy doing the screengrabs didn't know what he was doing and applied his own screwed-up "calibration" (I recall, in particular, a "House of Flying Daggers" comparison). So, unless someone else can vouch for this site, caveat viewer or something.

PS: I also like the fact that the Medusa has the Italian soundtrack.

PPS: I also really really prefer the original title.
