Someone had mentioned that the additional UPC label is a sign to the bonus disk. In case it helps, my UPC is 0-9736070682-6.

Well, I watched about an hour of this last nite and unfortunately there is still a TON of EE. Some scenes it is less noticeable but for example in the scene with Duvall wearing the cowboy hat ordering the strike and subsequent speech has Force-field size halos around him and the characters. Very disappointing. It's such beautiful cinematography and to me the EE is pretty distracting. The colors and black levels are great though.
I too had many branching, layer change like stutters on my oppo while watching redux and it through the player out of audio sync alot, (which unfortunately the oppo is known for)
All in all a great deal but could have and should have looked better IMHO.

I hate Circuit City. They have some of the worst customer service on the planet. I only shop there when I have no other choice or there is some fantastic deal that just can't be passed up. They pulled these bait-and-switch deals before. Not to mention if you ever have to return something or try to cash in one of their extended protection plans they hassle you to death or get downright unreasonable/unfair with their tactics. Basically they just suck. But I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised to have such an easy time buying the AN w/ BD DVD. It rang right up at $12.99, no problem. I guess I was due an easy-going shopping experience after all the shit they put me through all the other times.

Wow, you guys sure have some CC horror stories. When I got my Apocalypse Now DVD and it rang up as $14.99, I mentioned the sale price to the (extremely) cute girl who was my cashier and she said it was because the sticker UPC was wrong.

quick question:
both the original and the redux have coppola commentaries. are the commentaries identical with the exception that the redux has commentary for the extended scenes (while the commentary for the original obviously does not), or are they two entirely different commentaries? thanks in advance

Any more news about Dracula? It is on Comcast HD on Demand on this new FEARNET channel. The logo on the bottom tight FEARNET is annoyingly big though and believe it or not, about every 15 minutes a message scrolls UP the screen from the bottom covering the entire bottom 1/3 of the picture! WITH SOUND FX! ARGH! Incredibly annoying.
PQ looked "slightly", ever so slightly better then the SB disc upconverted. It definitely looked HD but not very high bitrate it seemed... How I met your Mother looks better in HD... Although the detail didn't seem that much better (a tad) the color definitely seemed a bit richer, (not just saturation either) with more variance...

Wow - I never knew about all the screwed up choices that went into making this new DVD of AN! I was going to pick this up during the DDD 20% off sale, but now I'm glad I read all of this before I did.
This would now make the second time I wish I had bought the original release of a Paramount DVD before it went OOP. (The first would be The Warriors.)

The Warriors is pretty cheap in the used market. I stupidly sold mine when the Ulitmate Edition was announced and had to wait a few months before prices for the original fell off (they were $25+ there for awhile). But I ended up getting a mint condition copy for less than $10, so it all worked out fine.

I finally got around to comparing the original Apocalypse Now DVD (99 version) to the Dossier version and clearly there is an improvement in video quality. Unfortuntely, as mentioned, there is still (unacceptable) EE --- but it's not quite as bad as before. More notably, the image is more filmlike and there seems better or more natural color saturation. For a videophile, it is worth the upgrade. I didn't compare the Redux versions as I prefer the original movie.

It's worth upgrading especially since the prices have dropped so low recently. I wish they would have put the two cuts on separate discs instead of splitting them up like that, but I'm not going to pass on the improved a/v and extras just because of that. I can resign myself to one disc change in the course of a 3 hr. movie. Hopefully they'll get Hearts of Darkness out on DVD soon so I can add that to my collection too. I won't feel "complete" as far as Apoicalypse Now is concerned until I get that.
