Do you own the Original AND the Re-Make?
With the recent release of 1933's King Kong and the up-coming release of Peter Jackson's remake, I thought about originals and re-makes. I currently own ONE original-remake set: The Nordic and US versions of Insomnia. The second will be King Kong.
So ... How many of you DVD Talkers own both the original and the re-make of films - and which ones do you think are worth owning? |
I have Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition and the 2004 version.
|
Insomnia
Dawn of the Dead Forgot about: Scarface Ring Grudge Texas Chainsaw Massacre Oceans 11 Ben Hur Willy Wonka/ Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Around the World in 80 Days |
War of the Worlds
Mancurian Candidate Flight of the Phoenix that's off the top of my head .. I'll check later for more. |
Dawn of the Dead
Ocean's 11 |
Ben-Hur
The Mummy Planet of the Apes Dawn of the Dead Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (3 versions) Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven The Wizard of Oz (Not sure if this counts since the '25 version hardly relates to the '39) |
The Fog
Insomnia Dawn of the Dead Scarface Cape Fear Psycho The Italian Job Ocean's 11 Solaris The Ring Vanilla Sky Texas Chainsaw Massacre Assault on Precinct 13 Bad News Bears I'm sure I have more too, but these were off the top of my head. EDIT - Some more to add: Around the World in 80 Days The Manchurian Candidate The Grudge Guess Who('s coming to dinner) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory |
Dawn of the Dead
Texas Chainsaw Massacre Night of the Living Dead |
I have the original and the remake of The Vanishing, the original because it's a fantastic film and the remake because I often pair them in my intro to film studies course (definitely not because it's a good film).
Does The Office count? |
Planet of the Apes
Scarface |
Solaris, but Soderburgh's is hardly a remake of Tarkovsky's
|
Amityville Horror
Assault on Precinct 13 Dawn of the Dead Frankenstein House on Haunted Hill The Manchurain Candidate The Mummy Night of the Living Dead Planet of the Apes Willie Wonka / Charlie & The Chocolate Factory If we're also counting tv shows, I have the old and new versions of Outer Limit and Twilight Zone (at least all that are available for each title). I'd say that Dead Zone counts, as the movie was made and then the TV series is essentially a long re-make. Buffy wouldn't count, because the TV series picks up after the movie. Do the numerous Batman films count as remakes? Not the sequels, but the Adam West one, the Michael Keaton one and the Chrsitian Bale one. |
Willie Wonka/Charlie and Chocolate Factory
War of the Worlds The Fly The Stepford Wives The Shop Around the Corner/You've got Mail Romeo and Juliet Robin Hood Planet of the Apes Peter Pan The Mummy Meet Joe Black The Mask of Zorro Manhunter/Red Dragon The Manchurian Candidate Little Women The Lathe of Heaven The King and I/Anna and the King of Siam/Anna and the King Ju-on/Grudge Journey to the Center of the Earth Invasion of the Body Snatchers Insomnia How the Grinch Stole Christmas Freaky Friday La Femme Nikita/Point of No Return Father of the Bride Dune Dracula Dawn of the Dead D.O.A. |
Dawn of the Dead
Night of the Lving Dead Assault on Precint 13 Willy Wonka/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Texas Chainsaw Massacre War of the Worlds I'm sure there are others. |
Dawn of the Dead
Ocean's 11 Willy Wonka/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Texas Chainsaw Massacre Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven |
Dawn Of The Dead
Nosferatu Frankenstein (1931 version and Terror Of Frankenstein, not really a remake of the movie though...also does Young Frankenstein count?) and I plan on buying the new King Kong |
There are probably others, but this is what I can think of.
Vanilla Sky/Abre Los Ojos Dawn of the Dead Robin Hood (2 movies and the animated one) Romeo and Juliet Scarface Ben Hur Tombstone/My Darling Clementine/Gunfight at the OK Corral/Wyatt Earp Manhunter/Red Dragon The Mummy Invasion of the Body Snatchers La Femme Nikita/Point of No Return Dune House on Haunted Hill Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven Fistful of Dollars/Yojimbo The Thing/The Thing From Another World (although not that similar) The Shining Salem's Lot Last Man on Earth/The Omega Man Thunderball/Never Say Never Again Ordered, not yet here Ten Commandments War of the Worlds (had the old one for a while, new one's on the way) Not sure if this counts, but they're really close. 28 Days Later/Day of the Dead |
