V For Vendetta DVD! (8/1/06 - merged)

Saw this last night...one of the best I've seen in years.

WB was there guaging audience reaction and a lot of us had to fill out cards. One of the questions was "would you buy this movie for $19.95 or less on DVD when it comes out?"

Answer? In a heartbeat....if it's on Blu-Ray. :) This is one movie I cannot WAIT to have in my collection.

visitor Q 03-19-06 10:41 AM

Caught this yesterday afternoon. If they released this film for $100 .. I'd buy it in a heart beat!!

Shagrath 03-19-06 11:21 AM

Don't let them know that!

ChristianB 03-19-06 02:12 PM

Well with heavy discounts, you can usually find new release DVDs for less than $19.95!?

Numanoid 03-19-06 02:29 PM

What's the point of this thread?

Y2K Falcon 03-19-06 02:39 PM

Will there be an insert?

Aside from displaying fanboyish-like excessiveness, none that I can see. :)

Considering i didn't even know it was based on a comic book until I was online to see the movie, I wouldn't call me a fanboy. I hadn't even seen a trailer.

But I figured i'd mention that the question was on the questionaire I had to fill out for WB after the movie.

Numanoid 03-19-06 06:54 PM

Well it sure is good to know that this might be out on DVD one day.

Yeah, I was worried that Warner Brothers may not release this movie. I'm glad to know that if I miss it in the theaters that it will be out on DVD and for the possible low price of $19.95 at that!

Anybody hear about preorders yet?
Features?

toddly6666 03-19-06 07:50 PM

What was WB getting at? That's a retarded question, unless I'm missing something. V For Vendetta will make tons of money on DVD whether it's 19.99 or 25.99. Was the question aimed at the non-action DVD buyers? Maybe the question was "would you buy this movie for 20 dollars without extras?"

It was a masterpiece film buy the way - It was like a Michael Moore action movie! Vote for Hugo and Natalie next USA presidential elections!

Maybe. We don't know how the survey turned out. -eek-

Libby 03-19-06 08:43 PM

who cares about the dvd release yet. I just wanna see the damn movie. WB is always up to something...

Dr. DVD 03-19-06 08:57 PM

MY guess is that this might be one of those deals with a close to bare bones one and a deluxe one also available for a marked up price, as WB seems fond of doing with stuff like Constantine and Charlie and the Chocolate factory.

FiveO 03-19-06 09:10 PM

I, like others, cannot wait for this to be released.

I'll be hitting it up in the theaters again later this week...if not for the movie, for the chance to see Portman in a school girl uniform :D

Cameron 03-19-06 10:28 PM

the real question is who will get the lenticular cover?

I enjoyed this movie, at the same time I see this turning into the next story I get sick of hearing about, and seeing on T-shirts.

thanks for the news DFNYC, I always like to hear what the little cards have to ask.

wergo 03-19-06 10:30 PM

I want a $49.95 3-disc Criterion set.

With a Michael Medved commentary track. :eyebrow:

calhoun07 03-19-06 10:57 PM

I would buy it for 49.99 if it had an Alan Moore commentary track.

X 03-19-06 11:33 PM

Since there is no way in hell I'm going to see this in a theater I'm glad they're considering releasing this on DVD. I'll probably be renting it I'm not too worried about what they price it at.

Yeah, good thing since so few movies are up for that consideration these days!!! -wink-

DonnachaOne 03-20-06 12:03 AM

Perhaps they were gauging whether or not it would be a good dual-release title, like Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, with a $19.95 regular version and a more expensive 2-disker.

ItsGreekToMe 03-20-06 12:20 AM

Well crap. From the title of the thread, I thought a DVD release date had been announced.

The question is, when will we get to the point where they just release films theatrically and on DVD at the same time? (I know a studio just tried this with a film, but I can't remember what it was.)

Me, too. God damn it. A thread about the possibility of this being released to DVD some day?

Pointyskull 03-20-06 08:15 AM

[sarcasm]What about VHS?[/sarcasm]

Honestly, this was one of the best theatrical experiences I've had in a very long time. No cell phones. No talking. No kicking chairs. NOTHING. The whole theater was dead silent throughout the whole thing. A friend of mine had the same experience. It's an intense movie. You might be pleasantly surprised.

ShallowHal 03-20-06 08:45 AM

Maybe they meant like a bare bones edition vs. a 2 disc like Charlie & The Chocolate Factory?

The fourth person to say the same thing wins, right?

cisman 03-20-06 08:55 AM

I thought it was really good as well. I hadn't read the comices before the the movie was very well done. I'll be picking this up on DVD for sure. I need to watch it again to understand it more.

Everyone was asleep :P I'm sure this will be a WB dual release like Constantine, Batman etc. It seems like a prime title for this kind of treatment.

I saw it on IMAX, and I must say, even though it wasn't really that action-packed, it definately kept people focused on it, and it was a really good movie.

I have a bunch of free movie tickets to use up and I might use them for this if it's playing at the only decent theater around me (the one George Lucas does screenings at). If it's not, my home theater is better than the tiny cineplex screens around here.

As has been proven before, the theatre experience you have versus the theatre experience the rest of America has is wildly different. Seeing any movie at 7:00pm on a Friday or Saturday is a guaranteed way to ruin a fun time.

I just pray they don't call it the DVD for Vendetta Edition.

Actually...i sometimes have the same problems others do. I never said i didn't. And the reason I'm commenting is BECAUSE it was so quiet and easy to get lost in. And odd because I'm not the only person who mentioned having that experience and noticing the silence.

Man, I almost forgot about that. I have no idea how that could be possible. I think I might just have to catch it again, but at the Imax this time just for the school girl scene!

Throw me into the category of fanboy waiting in line to get this one home to watch again and again. I'd love the Alan Moore commentary like someone else suggested, but considering everything I've heard about him is that he's never happy with the movie versions of his works, I wouldn't hold my breath on that happening anytime soon.

X 03-25-06 09:36 PM

Looks like it did come to the only decent theater around here so I guess I'll go see what the experience is like in the theater. I was considering going there for the King Kong remake (heard it really should be seen on a big screen) a while ago but it left so fast I didn't get a chance.

I think the last time I was at that theater was for the Planet of the Apes remake (hmm, two ape pictures...) when I wanted to compare its picture to what I had at home. That's why I haven't been back.

SlingshotBandit 03-27-06 02:27 AM

This thread is probably better suited for the Movie Talk section, but I'm just as carried away with this topic as all of you are. I saw the movie Saturday night, and walked away VERY impressed. I had no idea I'd like it as much as I did.

After the movie, I told my girlfriend, and the friends that came with us, that this was "a first day dvd purchase". I'll buy this on release day, regardless of the cost. I'm hoping there's a director's cut of it, with a longer playing time, because I seriously could have sat there watching that movie for another half hour. (Maybe longer, but I don't want to push it.) :)

ReduxGuy 03-27-06 12:30 PM

I want a 2-disc (which is possible) with a DTS-ES mix (which is quite impossible).

What is it with you and your positive theater experiences? We get it. You have great theaters in your area. :horse:

I'll keep an eye out for DVD news as I will definitely be renting this one.

Hahaha...I WISH that were the case! More often than not, I just learned to either a) tune people out or b) report them to management. Pretty simple.
