hey jdslater, was your R3 comic a reproduction of the entire trade paperback, or just an issue or two of the comic?

Probably the same cover as the two-discer, only with the metal casing. No telling what the inlying images would be. I thought the Batman and Narnia steelbooks were slick as all get out, so this one probably will be too. STILL wish I had access to these.

EvlAsh 07-27-06 10:45 PM

Does the comic book come with all 2-Disc editions or is it a Target Store exclusive (aside from the lenticular cover)?

Josh H 07-27-06 10:56 PM

It's a target exclusive as far as I know.

EvlAsh 07-27-06 11:10 PM

Thanks. I guess it's Target for me.

Don't know, I'm at work at the moment. I'll check it out and post some picks tomorrow.

Josh-da-man 07-28-06 08:47 AM

That Best Buy set looks good, but I'll have to see it up close before I make the final decision to purchase it. If the mask looks overly cheap, I won't bother.

majorjoe23 07-28-06 10:14 AM

I'm assuming the masks are probably the same ones given out at San Diego last year. They look good, but aren't particullarly heavy duty. They're basically the same quality as those elastic string in the back Halloween masks we had when kids.

Filmmaker 07-29-06 03:18 PM

I think I'm prepared to eat crow and take my words back; the more I look at the Best Buy set, the more I think, "Hey, that actually is a pretty sweet collectible", especially considering the alternate art for the Target lenticular set is featured as one of the postercards in the Best Buy set, so no loss there. And upon more careful study, I think perhaps the mask may actually fit an adult-sized face, so I'm gonna do a complete 180 here and say that's where my money's gonna go.

cisman 07-29-06 04:37 PM

Is the Steel version only a R3 release? That might be better than the Target release. Especially if it was as crappy as the Final Destination 3 at target from last week.

Slowpc 07-29-06 09:42 PM

Hopefully when I get into work tomorrow I will find the shipment of the special editions and see what the quality of the mask looks like first hand.

Well, a couple of people over at the HTF have seen the Best Buy set first hand and confirmed the mask is a miniature, i.e. not able to fit on an adult's face, so I'm changing gears back again. For $12 more, it should AT LEAST be built to scale. Back to Target's lenticular cover it is for me.

That's actually a stronger selling point for me. If the box isn't very big (i.e. the size of a box set), I might consider it even more.

Here are some pics of my R3 steelbook:
With my promo dice set, the comic book in the middle.

First and last pages, it's got about 70 pages. Very similar to the BB comic. And it's in English.

With the relatively insubstantial special features in this release, I won't be surprised to hear of an unrated extended/director's cut, complete with commentary and in depth documentary content, within a year. Possibly three or four discs. But I'm still getting this one.

When has Warner Bros ever done this with a movie that wasn't a major classic (like Ben-Hur or Gone With The Wind)? And even those took a few years.

Randal_Graves 07-30-06 11:37 PM

Nice, jdslater1 !

That set looks pretty nice!

FiveO 07-31-06 12:48 AM

Just ordered my 2 disc from Amazon today.... :)

If it doesn't arrive Tuesday I'll have to go rent it...I will be watching this on release day :D

Can't wait!!!

Digital Groove 07-31-06 02:14 AM

I wasn't planning on picking up the 2 disc version but Target's promos have me interested. It says it includes the comic book. Is this the FULL Graphic Novel of the entire series (like how the Sin City Extended, Uncut, DVD Edition) was?

If it is, I'll probably pick it up.

jdslater1 07-31-06 03:48 AM

It's not the full comic, its like a taster of the full comic.

They may not. Perhaps I don't quite have a feel for what Warner does with its catalog. I'm just speculating because this release feels a little shallow. I can see the possibility of an announcement for something more deluxe within the next six months.

I think the thing is nowadays we expect a commentary with everything, if it doesn't we think we will be double-dipping later on.
