... we have recently seen 2 for 1 ($17.99) and 2 for $20 sales on many of the WB 2-Disc Special Editions with DTS.

My guess is that this will be $10 within 4 months.

some Superbit Deluxe titles have been priced at $9.99 at BB. i'm sure there's plenty of other titles that fill that description. it's come to the point now where we see titles that are $19.99 SRP street for ~$15, and then a few months later drop to

To clarify, meaning $9.99 as an introductory price, not including internet specials or in-store sales. If distributors charged any less from the get-go, they'd never make any money. DTS is normally a somewhat costly process.

I just ordered this as a freebie with a Columbia House order. Hopefully, the transfer is better than the previous edition.

Can someone post (with spoiler tags, natch) a summary of what is in the deleted scenes? Especially the one with Chris/Barnes that Stone said he should've used the alternate take...I've purchased this film twice in the past 6 years already and don't feel like I should have to do so again.

According to Digitially Obsessed, it's the same transfer as the previous edition and the DTS track is only a marginal improvement at best. Their reviewer was underwhelmed by the picture (B+) and sound (B-).

I checked it myself with the MGM and Sony/MGM DVD's. They are in fact identical prints with the new DVD having a more slightly better color palette and a slightly darker picture. Not much of a difference between the 2 transfers at all, only slight differences.

Damn!

I'm glad I've been holding off on these re-releases lately. They'll be dirt cheap within months anyway...

*BUMP!*

Hey guys, I'm planning on watching Platoon this Sunday and what better choice than watching it on this new 20th anniversary version. But how is the DTS soundtrack? Does it have more bass or something worthy for double dipping?

Thanks.

It's not worth double dipping.

it's better, but not a huge improvement. not worth a double dip solely for DTS.

Picture is slightly better too, but again not by all that much.

So what are the deleted scenes? Are they worth buying this set?

it's worth the double-dip if you can find it dirt cheap (like under $8 bucks or so) -- don't pay any more for it!
