Any word on a DVD release of this? My friends in the UK have seen it on pay per view and its also available on dvd there.

Looks to be good.

It should be out in theaters here in August.

Have you a multiregion DVD player (I'm assuming yes, most smart people do)? The UK double-disc set is very good.

Recently picked up the UK dvd, great movie.

Don't know why they would release it in theatres in the US when it is almost exactly the same story as The Cave. Although it is a lot better than The Cave.

Let's ask someone who knows the answer.

There you go!

Besides, no-one remembers The Cave anyway.

Really good movie, but do yourself a favor and don't wait six months for this to be dumped onto a few screens. I'd highly recommend the R2 release, as others do obviously. Worth every penny.

The R2UK is even has a full-bit 1536kbps DTS. Doesn´t get better than that.

I believe Lionsgate has the rights for The Descent...

I got the UK disc 2 months ago - great disc (it's a 2-disc set), and it's a solid, well-done, brutally bloody horror movie.

I would actually recommend doing the exact opposite, and waiting for the theatrical release, however limited it may be. Hopefully the film will play near you; it's definitely worth seeing on the big screen. I'm worried that its impact will be greatly diminished on video.

One interesting thing to keep in mind is that the U.S. theatrical version will apparently have a different ending, according to an article in the UK based Total Film magazine. Anyone who has seen the film in the UK will know what this ending consists of, as the U.S. version will stop one scene before the original UK ending does.

Gotta disagree with anyone saying wait for theaters. This is Lionsgate we're talking about. IF (and that's a big if) it comes to theaters in August as someone mentioned, it is very likely to get the "Undead" treatment and just dumped in as few theaters as possible. Then you'll still be looking at at least 3 - 4 months before the DVD comes out. Grab the R2 DVD now if you can, just my opinion.

I hadn't heard about this. I hope it isn't true.
Spoiler:
Wrapping the movie up with a nice little bow seems to be the American way of filmmaking. It was the End of the movie that got to me most of all, damn depressing.

I wonder why CDWow doesn't carry this?
I don't feel like paying for shipping at Amazon.

Ditto... ordered from Amazon.UK awhile back.

Quite different from "The Cave", actually... 1st Scare-movie in years, that has actually made me squirm.
Had my neck-hairs jittering from Credits to Credits!

Wow. It looks like I waited a day to late. The link above no longer works and I can't find this title at cdwow anymore. Oh well. I'll take my business elsewhere.

Bugger! I was just getting ready to order this today. I saw "The Descent" on their site as of yesterday

I finally just ordered from Amazon.co.uk. But when doing so I ran into a little problem. There is a new version being released on Monday. Anyone know what the difference is besides the cover? I debated but went for the cheaper one. Just in case I don't like the movie. Links below.

I noticed that too, and was confused. Seems awfully fast for a double-dip, and doesn't look like a "director's cut" version, or having an extra disk. If anything, it looks like less extras are listed. Maybe its one of these deals with the first being a somewhat limited edition as far as packaging, but the two are otherwise the same? Maybe this is why it got pulled from CD-WOW -- to account for the switch? It's sucks in that the new version is almost double the cost.

The new version is roughly $15 here:

http://www.bensonsworld.co.uk/a/dvdt...0000110672.asp

Comes out on 03/06 but it's just a re-release of the previous version which is listed as "no longer available". The specs are identical.

Here is some news on the American Version of The Descent hitting theaters later this year. From Bloody-Disgusting.com:

-----------------------------------
I don't want to take anything away from the Horror Channel's story this morning regarding the ending of Lionsgate's upcoming UK horror pic The Descent (review), but we've seen both version here at B-D. We were on the scene (with MTV) at Sundance this past January and have a little more of an idea of how different the ending will be when the film his US theaters this August. THC reported that the ending that currently exists on the British print of Neil Marshall's second feature film, and the subsequent DVD, will no longer be in place. What we can tell you is that a few minutes have been cut from the end film- for the worst. Without ruining the finale, the fate of one of the stars of the film drastically changes between these two versions. And just like the US remake of 'The Grudge', I would call the new ending "Americanized" or better yet "tailored for morons." Either way Neil Marshall's film is still one hell of a ride, and guaranteed to be one of the best horror films of 2006.

That's fucking ridiculous. I was going to wait and see this in theaters in August, but am not going to bother now. I'll probably just get the UK dvd now.
