Haha, I haven't watched a majority of my collection but basically I buy my DVDs and then watch them when I get the chance. Very expensive habbit but the resale value for them is pretty good so if I ever needed to sell them, it would payoff a bit. It'll take a lifetime or two to watch everything, but I'm working on it...

p.s. So that's what a Salo spine looks like...
Edit: Although I just noticed you used "ugly American" alphabetical order: L'Eclisse, L'Avventura under "L", etc. You lose some points there but it's the thought that counts.

Unfortunately illenium the Salo isn't the real thing, it's some second-printing or something. But it's good enough because I'm not paying what people charge for the real thing!
I could never open a video store, toddly6666, and risk someone screwing a DVD up. I'm very particular.
I used to have my DVDs lined up along the wall but I just moved them into this "row" type thing which I think looks better in a way.
The autographed posters come from eBay, the seller I buy from most frequently is movieemporium. They're great!

this is my place to buy Autographed stuff. I bought a Life aquatic poster on here. This is also the same place that the Brokeback mountian shirts went over i think 100,000 dollars.

My question to you, since you are an obvious collector is what about HD DVD and BluRay? will you be repurchasing the titles? Like you said you buy then watch later... or would you jsut not worry about HD and BluRay? Or.. if you are going to purchase the titles in the new format, I sense a long list of "for sale" DVDs.

Thanks for all the suggestions for my setup, everyone! I'm looking to get some high-capacity shelves but the most I've seen is one that holds 708, does anyone know of any shelves that hold more?

A plus of the Boltz racks is that dust won't build up on them

Have you seen a HD or BD demo yet? I would go to a high end electronics store and see if they have something set up. Best Buy has been using lousy connections to play their demos, so you don't get the full effect.

I know it's a "looks cool" thing, but those boltz racks are EXPENSIVE for what you get! I built a regular ol' bookcase-style shelf for about $100 that holds about the same amount of DVD's (6' tall by 6' wide). The super-kit linked above is over $600!!

Just moved and finally got my front wall set up in the new place.
It is a 4:3 DIY screen. Behind the screen and curtains, the wall is covered by 2 inch acoustic blade tiles.
Still left to do: side/back walls (will use acoustic panels for these), install carpet and put in a bar/concession area. The bar/concession stuff will go to the right of the screen... there's an area over there made for it.
I'll also eventually put in a masking system for widescreen light spill...
These images don't do it justice, but you can get the idea anyway...
