The Dirty Dozen 2-Disc Special Edition ----> 5/23/06

From dvdtimes.co.uk:

The Dirty Dozen 2-Disc SE (R1) in May

Warner Home Video have announced the Region 1 DVD release of The Dirty Dozen (Two-Disc Special Edition) for 23rd May 2006 priced at $26.99 SRP. Lee Marvin, along with Charles Bronson, Ernest Borgnine, Jim Brown, Trini Lopez, Telly Savalas, Donald Sutherland, George Kennedy, Clint Walker and John Cassavetes (nominated for a supporting actor Oscar(R)) head the all-star macho cast, which was directed by Robert Aldrich

The new DVD features a newly remastered print and, for the first time, a 16x9 format (enhanced for widescreen televisions). Bonus features include the DVD premiere of the 1985 sequel, "The Dirty Dozen: The Next Mission," with Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine and Richard Jaeckel reprising their original roles. There are also two new documentaries plus a vintage documentary and commentary by original novelist E.M. Nathanson, film historian David Schow and veteran military advisor Capt. Dale Dye with Jim Brown, Trini Lopez, Kenneth Hyman, Stuart Cooper and Colin Maitland.

I have only seen the film in its entirety once years ago on tv. I liked it then and felt it sure seemed like it must have been the 'original' lively cast of colorful charecters having to band together type of films. Since there are too many films since then to list that follow a similar formula.

Then again some could say The Great Escape was as well. But I saw more DD charecterizations in later films than The Great Escape.

It looks to be another fine 2 Disc Special Edition DVD by WB. I'm curious to see the 1985 sequel included on the DVD.
Nice job WB!

Another case where procrastination wins - never got around to picking this up, and from the description, this looks to be another "must have" from WB.

Sweet. Held off on buying this since it was a snapper, and I eventually saw it in a keepcase but never got around to getting it. Definitely picking this up.

This will help me forgive the WB for botching the Unbearable Lightness of Being SE.

I really wish they would consider using more of the original poster art for these special editions:

But I'll be double-dipping, regardless of the giant Lee Marvin staring down the photoshop napalm cloud.

I really like the cover art, no problems with it for me. Maybe, I just can't wait to get my hands on this one. Warner comes through once again!!
