I've already pre-ordered this with great anticipation, although on a such a lavish, 4-disc set I am disappointed at the following revelation:
"The "Pilgrim's Guide" text commentary, interactive production grid, the A&E and History Channel documentaries and behind-the-scenes featurettes aren't ported over"

Ridley Scott and Peter Jackson are probably the best director's that totally utilize the DVD format to it's fullest extent. Looks like a fantastic DVD set. I can't wait to add it to my collection next to Gladiator extended edition and Black Hawk Down and Alien director's cut.
Now, where the hell is 1492 and Blade Runner?

Held off on buying the current release since this one was pretty much confirmed.

The Pilgrim's Guide text commentary on the current 2-disc release is actually pretty good, imo. Too bad they didn't include it.
Just over a week.

Since the reivews on this seem all pretty good, I may pick this one up...I bought the original 2-disc at Wal-Mart during the BF sale for $8.00 so I dont feel so bad for the double dip on this one, as this was an averagely (my new word) reviewed movie that I really liked.

Snagged an early copy of this one and watched it last night. Totally agree with the early reviews. It is baffling to me how/why a studio would hire such a respected director, give him such a big budget, and then totally neuter a movie before release instead of coming out with the best, most engrossing version possible.
This version is SO much better it's like a revelation. All of the things that bothered me about the theatrical cut have been addressed/eliminated. Even Orlando Bloom's performance, which I found unconvincing in the theater, is greatly improved by the added exposition and context.
For those who are wondering about hanging on to the earlier disc, it's true that the "Pilgrim's Guide" text commentary has been removed, but it's been replaced by an "Enginer's Guide" text commentary made specifically for the longer cut, so you won't be missing out on that. The A&E and History Channel docs have not been carried over, though.

Any chance of someone uploading some photos of this set's inner packaging? I couldn't find anything online besides front and spine cover photos. Thanks.

For those that have it early, how is the case? Is it sturdy enough that it won't be damaged in the mail? Need to know because Overstock does not package well and want to know if it is going to make it in one piece. Thanks!

Upper corners of my outer slipcase are slightly bent and there's a crease on the digipak spine that makes it slightly bulge outwards. I ain't complaining since it's a free review copy.

Appreciated. I think I am going to change my order. Just need to find something now to get it over $25.

Just watched this one...WOW!!!
The story is much, much better and gives the viewer a much clearer view of the main characters' intentions & backgrounds. Moreso, it is a revelation of Sybilla's character and Eva Green's acting...she definitely shines in this director's true version of the film. I was already a fan of hers after seeing Bertolucci's The Dreamers, but this dvd further shows her thespian skills in her depiction of pomp, grief & resignation.

I bought it today, and I'm thinking about watching it tonight.
I saw it in theatres, shortly after it came out, and was impressed. I liked it, but I felt it could have been better. From what everyone is saying, this Director's Cut seems to get it right.
