Hostel ----> 4/18/06 (rumored)

Well, I think the only movie by Roth I have seen so far is Cabin Fever. Cabin Fever was plenty gross and disturbing, but the movie itself wasn't anything to write home about. In any case, I still want to see Hostel. I haven't seen it in the theater, and buying it on DVD would be worth it for me because, the way I see it, it costs me almost twenty bucks for two tickets at the theater. This is minus food, drinks, and annoyances. I sit like six feet away at home from a 42" widescreen television and I have a surround sound system. Be much cheaper for me to just buy the darn thing and it's much more conveniant as well. If I end up not thinking too highly of this film either, oh well, at least I didn't pay to see it in the theater only once.

My 2 cents: Harry Knowles?!?!? Doing Commentary!!!!! What the hell!?!?!
Well, that's 1 commentary I will never listen to. That clown doesn't deserve to speak on any commentary track.
It was Harry Knowles that inspired Roth to make the movie during a conversation they had about one of the sickest websites he had ever seen.

Alternate Ending
I caught HOSTEL at the Toronto Film Festival where Roth said that he had an alternate ending that proved to be too disturbing or morbid for theatrical release.
The scene includes our hero taking revenge on the principal villain's little daughter.
He considered the scene dark humour, but test audiences said different. Roth said that he would include the alternate ending on the DVD. The question is, will it be with branching or not?
Decent film. Its images will sit with you for a few days.

unfortunately i have seen some hostel dvd pictures on ebay, which are simply amaray cases! the original dvd announcement on dvdtimes.co stated that the dvd would be: "packaged in an embossed, eye-catching O-Ring"?
can anyone confirm if the hostel dvd has any special packaging or slipcase cover?

Sorry to rain on you guys parade but the alternate ending is NOT on the dvd. I got my dvd in the mail yesterday and all there is on the dvd is a brief glimpse of the daughter riding the train with Paxton. That was seen in the documentary on the disk, there are NO deleted scenes or alternate endings. The only feature besides the 3 part documentary is a multi-angle feature with the bubble gum gang going nuts on the goons car. IMO this was a barebones edition, I hope they come out with a deluxe edition someday.
By the way Hostel 2 has been announced! YES!

if the Best Buy in my area was closer I would've probably gone for that deal with the tattoo. Circuit City is only 10-15 minutes away while Best Buy is almost double that.
I'm happy with my purchase, glad they put so much stuff on this DVD release.

I picked up HOSTEL today and had it on while working. I'd say there's about 30 seconds of extra footage max in this unrated version compared to the theatrical. A little bit of extra gore in some of the gory scenes, but nothing major - just a few seconds extra here and there. I think the most added stuff is in the...
SPOILER!!!!
...scene where the German killer slips on the blood and the chainsaw goes into his leg. There are a couple of extra shots of the leg being sliced off and blood spurting that I don't remember from the theatrical print.

As for the Tarantino/Roth commentary, it was alright. I generally like to learn something from them, and I did.
Spoiler:
...and some other random factoids. Atleast it wasn't as boring as John MacTiernan's commentary, or lack there of, on "Predator".

Anybody else loving the featurettes? Probably the most enjoyble behind-the-scenes footage I've seen yet!
