Spooooooooooon!!!! (Tick cartoon coming to DVD)

TVShowsonDVD reports that The Tick cartoon is coming to DVD sometime in 2006. It just says it will most likely be in a multi-disc set like Ducktales and Rescue Rangers were, but the Tick had 36 episodes in all and each of those sets had 27 episodes on 3 discs, so I don't know if they'll just add one disc and put all 36 out or what. One downside is those Ducktales/Rescue Ranger sets had zero bonus features, but hopefully that won't be the issue for the Tick.
And, to other people that were wanting this, your welcome :) I just finished recording all of the episodes from ToonDisney and making myself DVDs, figures that they would officially announce them right after I put all that effort into it. I guess I just have to do my 90's Spider-man DVDs now so that season sets of that will come out :P

ThatGuamGuy 01-22-06 01:00 PM

I have a feeling sales would be better as two seperate smaller volumes, rather than one giant one at a higher price. I'll buy it either way, but not everybody might care about having every episode.

I just watched the whole run on Cartoon Disney about six months ago; should've suspected that was leading up to a DVD release, as it always happens that way.

Paul Arnette 01-22-06 01:16 PM

Woohoo!

It's about $%^&-ing time!

Randy Miller III 01-22-06 02:59 PM

Sweet! I'm definitely picking this one up.

Tick: "everyone passes, except for Sarcastro....who passes with flying colors!"
Sarcastro: "really?"
Tick: "No"

great series

The Infidel 01-22-06 03:57 PM

Sweet.

Joe Molotov 01-22-06 04:00 PM

Nice! Now Fox needs to release Sam & Max on DVD.

Dan Average 01-22-06 04:52 PM

It wouldn't be up to Fox. They sold off their kids division to Disney back in 2001 (which is why Disney is releasing the animated Tick on DVD). Whether that included Sam and Max, I don't know -- it was produced by Nelvana, so they may have retained ownership.

"I'm the Midnight Bomber who bombs at midnight!"

This is great news.

I read about this earlier. Very cool news, but so far it's not official so it's a bit soon to celebrate. Still, Darkwing Duck and The Tick are two of my favorite unreleased cartoons. This plus the Dr. Katz rumor have me pretty excited about 2006 :)

JiM T 01-23-06 12:29 AM

Yay! :) :) :)

glasschicken 01-23-06 09:21 AM

Finally!!! I can't work, too excited!

Gravity is a harsh mistress!

Life is a big wild crazy tossed salad, but you don't eat it, no sir! You live it!

TV Reporter: Can you blow up the Earth?
The Tick: Egad! I hope not! That's where I keep all my stuff!

I absolutely love the Tick cartoon. I so hope this is true!

TNAJason 01-23-06 09:51 PM

Yay! The Tick is a classic.

GreenMonkey 01-23-06 11:45 PM

Yay

Spoooooon!

BuddyRevell 05-12-06 05:07 PM

August 29th is what Buena Vista is saying about the release. But nothing official yet. I'm so exicited for this. SPOOOOOOOOON!!!!!!!!

You can read news here.

ThatGuamGuy 05-12-06 09:38 PM

Is this going to be the full animated series in one single release?

Wow, that surprises more than that 'Star Wars' news.

The release date isn't official. You might want to be more excited about SW.

ThatGuamGuy 05-13-06 12:51 PM

I'm not excited about the release date specifically, because I know those things change even when they are official. However, with all that tvshowsondvd.com has said about the release thus far, I am confident that it will be out by the end of the year at the very least.

But, if the release is one volume with all three seasons and every episode, rather than spreading them out over two releases, that's quite exciting to me. So the more news that seems to imply that, the better ... but I'd still love to hear some confirmation of it.

Patrick Mirza 05-19-06 02:59 PM

Details are here

BuddyRevell 05-19-06 03:15 PM

Guess they decided to go season by season. 13 in season 1, 13 season 2, and 10 for season 3. Whatever, hopefully the remaining sets won't take forever to come out.

SPOOOON!

SkipKassidy 05-19-06 05:22 PM

Tick, The - Complete Series? Nope. Season 1? Nope. Read on...
Posted by Gord Lacey
5/19/2006

The good news first: we have artwork for the August 29 release of The Tick, which we previously reported. The bad news is that it's not the complete series, and isn't even the complete first season. You can see the starburst indicates that this contains "The Most Hilarious Episodes From Season One!" - Season 1 is 13 episodes. The price for the set will be $34.99 US, or $37.99 CAN for the 2 disc set. The set appears to be called "The Belated 10th Anniversary Edition," and makes no mention of it being volume 1. Surely this won't be all, will it? The set will come in "collectible packaging" and will contain an original lithograph from Tick creator Ben Edlund.

Patrick Mirza 05-19-06 05:31 PM

But the industry release I read says 13 episodes...

This'll be interesting.

ThatGuamGuy 05-19-06 05:41 PM

Optimistic answer: Maybe "most" is meant to qualify "adventures" as opposed to "hilarious"; the most possible adventures from season one!

Pessimistic answer: Any way we can blame George Lucas for this?

BuddyRevell 05-19-06 05:51 PM

Maybe it means that season one is Buena Vistas favorite season and umm...oh hell I don't know. If this turns out to be a "best of" set I will be el pisso.

John_Shil 05-19-06 10:32 PM

How could less than 13 episodes cost $35? Even with discount, $25-30 is pretty bad for less than 13 half hour episodes. Could the lithograph have anything to do with this outrageous price?

Scorpio 05-19-06 10:49 PM

I can't believe that people have only been clamoring for this for YEARS, and then they pull bullshit like this. Guess what I won't be buying.

Joe Molotov 05-19-06 10:55 PM

You've got to be kidding me.

GuruTwo 05-19-06 11:27 PM

I understand the frustration in regards to this show being released by season instead of all at once but you're only jeopardizing the possible release of the entire series by saying "guess what I won't be buying".

fitprod 05-20-06 02:59 AM

Perhaps we should be saying "Spoooork!" instead of "Spoooon!" now.

Anybody?

I can't really afford to buy DVDs I don't want in hopes that it translates into the DVDs I do want being released.

Patrick Mirza 05-21-06 02:06 PM

Every mention of this collection in the trades refers to it as "Season 1." TVShowsonDVD is flat-out WRONG on this matter and may have read too much into the blurb that's in the starburst. To that point, I offer you this:

http://www.davisdvd.com/images/news/tickupc.jpg

Besides, why would it have been a 2-disc set if it was just a compilation of season 1 episodes? Thirteen 23-min episodes plus some extras fit just fine on two discs.
