The original, unedited versions are available from Time Life. Although they don't contain the music video segments.

That should be "were" available, right?

BuddyRevell 07-05-06 01:50 PM

OMG, that cover is perfect!

PixyJunket 07-05-06 02:44 PM

I'm not really a Tick fan but "The Tick vs. Season One" gets a  from me.

whotony 07-05-06 08:17 PM

i guess the tick won and knocked out part of season one

Liquid Death 07-06-06 02:16 AM

big fan of the cover, tho hopefully they'll be some good % off sales, as the MSRP is a bit high for 13 half-hour episodes...

12 episodes, unless they managed to get 'Mole Men' on at the last minute.

EZSnappin 08-29-06 12:21 PM

It's here!

Looks good so far except there is a serious case of edge enhancement. Still better than my vhs copies from the original airings - worth it to get rid of the horrible "Fox Kids" bits in every commercial break.

freshticles 08-29-06 02:25 PM

couldn't find it...that's nothing new...sigh

jdslater1 08-30-06 07:19 AM

Got mine yesterday. Nice to get a Litho with it. Haven't popped it in yet but I have the weekend off so I might watch them then.

mifuneral 08-30-06 08:37 AM

I got mine yesterday. The video looks pretty bad, even on my 9 year old tv, but it's The Tick so whatever.

EZSnappin 08-30-06 03:21 PM

Whatever is right, my fine chum!

Bad Tick > no Tick.

tonyc3742 08-30-06 03:50 PM

How bad? I'm watching Animaniacs S1 and Xena S1, and they both show their age as well [Xena more so].
I watched the live-action show on DVD and enjoyed it--is the cartoon better, worse, the same?

slop101 08-30-06 03:54 PM

At least they mention on the package that they couldn't get episode 11.

bloomcounty 08-31-06 07:25 AM

Are the episodes cut?

I've watched the first few, and noticed that the running time is only like 18 minutes. And I thought I read somewhere that someone noticed a cut bit from the first episode. Does anyone know if they are indeed cut?

(Plus, I saw a site that has the rest for download, and all the running times for the rest are listed at 20-21+ minutes... Of course, the first season shows are no longer available...)

Randy Miller III 08-31-06 08:04 AM

Here's an odd question for you guys: did anyone notice a brief video blackout during the last episode (The Tick vs. Arthur's Bank Account), right around the 10:25 mark? I thought I blinked for a second, but I back-tracked and saw it again! Not a big deal, of course (it literally is the speed of a blink), but I wanted to make sure it was on all copies and not just mine.

As for the running time, most of the episodes I've seen so far have been 21-22 minutes, but I'll check them all before I write the review tomorrow. They all include opening/closing credits, as well as the black-background "interview" prologues during several episodes. The only content I remember being cut in the past is the "Bi-Polar Bear" scene from Episode 1, but that's been left intact on the DVD. If anyone spots any legitimate cuts, please let me know!

tonyc3742 08-31-06 08:05 AM

Wow, interesting. Most recent 'half hour' cartoons are actually 21-22 minutes in actual play time. Does it have opening/closing credits on each episode? Was there a 'Previously on...." bit when they first aired?

bloomcounty 08-31-06 11:27 AM

I've only watched the first two and both were under 20 minutes with full credits and everything. The second episode (according to my player) actually came in at under 19 minutes!

However, they won't play on my old Toshiba dvd player, and I have to play them on my Philips 642 -- perhaps that player is giving me a wonky time reading.

Can anyone post all the running times for all the shows on the set? You can just chapter forward (there's no chapter stops, unfortunately) and watch whay your time coutner says really fast before spitting you back out to the menu.

Thanks! Looking forward to hearing back!

As aired, yes, there would be.

I am hesitant to swear to it, but I don't think there ever was one.

The strange thing is, other than "Bi-Polar bear", I've never heard of any syndication cuts for this show, so why would there even be shortened versions? Here's hoping it's a glitch on bloom's player.

whotony 08-31-06 12:20 PM

i have these on my pc, cant remeber how they got there.
the first ep is 20' 53"

sec is 19'16"

third 21'59"

there is a smiley face watermark so it must be from canadian tv

BuddyRevell 08-31-06 12:38 PM

On my Toshiba 4900 the discs play fine, but from the second episode on, the opening theme song doesn't play correctly for the first few seconds (the time clock and a few seconds after that). Popped it in my Sony player and the audio plays fine.

Strange

Thanks for the post. So are these "uncut" times of the *original airings*?

Since you can play them no problem, can you please check the running times of the episodes (if not all, then at least the first three or four -- though all would be better!)? It would really help to solve whether or not the episodes are cut, as some of us are wondering. Probably best to test on your Sony player, just to be safe. Thanks!

Looking forward to hearing back...

bloomcounty 09-01-06 04:10 PM

Okay, since no one bothered to do this, I took the dvds to a friend's house and got the running times by playing them on their computer. I did just the first eight episodes:

1 - 20:55
2 - 19:15
3 - 21:57
4 - 19:28
5 - 19:39
6 - 20:36
7 - 21:17
8 - 21:16

So this is in keeping with what whotony posted about his encodes of the first three off of Canadian tv. But the question then is, are those cut? The episodes that are under twenty minutes seem suspect -- but maybe they were actually that short when originally aired?

Thoughts?

Ravenous 09-03-06 02:51 PM

Picked this up for $15 today!

The DVDreview says that an episode that was confirmed cut, is on the DVD as originally aired, so I (hopefully) doubt they were edited.

Theres also an add for Season 2 coming soon! Cant wait!

joltman 09-04-06 06:07 AM

Care to tell us how/where you got it for $15?

Watched this episode last night and I can confirm that this happens on my set as well. It's so fast that it didn't really bother me too much.

READ A BOOK!!

Well I can't say whether they are cut or not, but I had always thought that the Simpsons was never really spot on with length of a show, and that might play into whether they used the full intro or the abbreviated intro.

Whatever the case, every episode is just about 20 minutes of funny. :)

Ravenous 09-06-06 04:28 PM

Got it at WalMart; Im pretty sure it was a misprice though since another WM had it for $25! I had to go back to that original to get it for $15

CaptGideon 04-02-07 12:02 AM

Any word on releases for Season 2 or 3?

I hope they can include the episode that was missing from the Season 1 set too. Any news on that front?
