My unwatched pile may or may not be in the triple digits. I am more than likely going to wait until the next DDD 20% off.

1.Make the bulk of my purchases during the DDD 20% off sale(s).

2. Thin the herd. My shelves are maxed out.

3. Think harder about "rewatch" value. I own too many DVDs that have never left the case.

I usually only buy them on good deals. I am going to continue that this year.

For example, today I bought

Jaws: The Revenge (WS)
Knockaround Guys (WS/FS)

for $10.68 tax included. It was a used place, But they were in great shape, included the original case, insert, and cover. Both discs had no scratches. I have bought from this store before. So I know they are reliable. That is $5.34 A Pop! That is a deal!

Not really. Jaws The Revenge can be found in the Wal-Mart $5.50 bin and Knockaround Guys isn't more than $7 and some change new.

A late addition to this thread:

2006 is going to be a difficult year for me and my DVD addiction.
My New Years DVD resolution is an combination of almost everything mentioned in this thread. Last year my DVD resolutions went out the window, but this year money is a bit tighter (and I want to upgrade my TV), so I will be following the rules below:

1. Watch at least one DVD that I have not yet seen each day. If I stick to this, I will still have unwatched DVDs at the end of the year.
2. Buy only 1 DVD per week, and if there is nothing of interest one week I am not to buy something just to fill the quota.
3. Sell sell sell ... I need to get rid of at least half of my collection.
4. Stop frequenting places like Wal-Mart and Blockbuster trolling for cheap deals. Nine times out of ten anything I buy just collects dust on my shelf anyways.
5. If I have not watched the last season yet, I cannot buy the next one.
6. Stop creating so-called "must-have" collections that end up filling my shelves with DVDs I don't even really want. Ex. Best Pictures (I am definitely never going to watch many of these again)
7. My credit card is not meant for importing every cool DVD in the world.
8. On that note, my credit card is not meant for buying ANY DVDs!
9. Question. Do I really need to upgrade (insert title here) that I never actually watch to the new special special special edition? Answer. Not really.
10. Above all else, rent more.

So far, 13 days into the year, I have purchased no DVDs, and have watched 14.
As well, I have generated a list of about 200 DVDs that I am going to sell in the upcoming month.

How is every one else's resolve holding up?

My resolution last year was to spend as little as possible--buy only those DVDs I really wanted and otherwise just save my money. Not sure how much I actually spent, but I'm pleased to say that I did, in fact, keep more money coming in than going out. Plan to continue that this year.

I maintain lists of all the DVDs I could possibly want--and there are hundreds of them--but money will stretch only so far, and I prefer to keep the power that would enable me to buy those DVDs than to actually buy them and use up that power. Sometimes it's more fun to dream about how far your money could go than to go that distance.

...well, at least a few people are realistic about what the year will bring in regard to their addictions. As for me? I'm not buying any DVDs this year. Except for a few that I really want. And a few that are good deals. Oh, and some used titles that look appealing. Also, if I have some extra income, I might pick up a blind buy or two. But aside from that, no goddamn DVDs come into this house!

I have no resolutions regarding my DVD collection, other than to continue to watch it amass.

I'm a long-time used DVD buyer and that's not going to change with the ever lowering prices of discs both new and used. I'll spring for occasional titles on release day but not often- when I do it seems like I'll run into it at a pawn shop a month later for $5.

My NYR is basically not to go too crazy on buying DVD's UNTIL the semi-annual 20% sale at DDD and then I'll just go plain crazy - blind buys an all!!

I wanted to relate that to the story of Sampson and his long hair....but I'll pass.

You are my hero. As for me, that sounds depressing as hell. If you can't snag your dreams....then keep on dreamin'!

Not so much a resolution as a reaffirmation of my "slow growth" policy. I just spent a bunch of dollars to upgrade my storage shelving to a capacity of 680. I have around 400 DVDs, so I'll only continue to get them as gifts, via pre-viewed deals, with gift cards or on sale. And only the movies I really like! Plus, I'll periodically review my collection for movies with which I can part ways.

Okay my update...
So far so good on Into The Blue, and I even decided to drive myslef crazy by waiting on Red Eye too. I was gonna wait on Transporter 2,but then found out Circuit City was getting a bonus disc. a piece of crap extended music featurette off the movie disc. Just not a fan of the music/scoring aspect of making movies, unless its Star Wars. February 6th is when Red Eye comes at Movie Gallery but there will only be 3 movies, and I'll have to wait longer for it.
I'm getting at Movie Gallery sometime in February...
Four Brothers
Into the Blue
Red Eye
and whatever else might come out at MG around 1st that I want.

Like a lot of people I want to cut down on the blind buys although I have probably regretted a blind buy maybe once or twice in about 90 times. All the stuff on my Wish List was either newer stuff that just needed a price reduction or just tough to find so I started buying too many blind buys just to buy a DVD basically. That will end this year.

I'll probably finish my Criterion collection this year (not buying all of them, just all the ones I want). I currently have about 155 and I need about 75 more including announced upcoming titles.

-Sell/trade off all of the dvds that I haven't re-watched and realize quality over quantity. No matter how much I tell myself to keep it - sell it anyway.

-I am down to 40-50 owned discs. I will/have only pre-order/ed dvds that I know I will enjoy time and time again.

-Rent more. Buy less. (I so want to get in on that DVDPlanet Criterion deal - but I realize the local library has almost every title that I can check out for free).

Soon I am going to take a good hard look at my collection. Go through movie by movie and ask if I really need this, am I really going to watch it again, etc. Last time I did this, I got rid of about 20 DVD's.
