1) I will stop buying so many DVDs
2) Only buy a used DVD if it is a really great price and or hard to find

I've been doing well on both so far, since I started this resolution late last year. Haven't really been buying as much as I used to.

I will stop buyign DVDs

and start stealing them

To start watching all of my unwatched DVDs (which is currently hovering around 25).

wait for new releases to become PV or 2 for 30. Update collection based on cheaper titles first. Rent more movies as oppose to going to the theatre.

Same as in every year, I buy what I have seen and like.

No more Blind buys for me. I'm gonna start to rent more. I've burned myself too many times on blind buys (urban legends bloody mary...cry wolf) for now on I'm renting "iffy" titles and buying the ones i know I'll like. And I'll start right after i blind buy wedding crashers tomorrow

You cant go wrong blind buying wedding crashers though so that doesn't count.

Well, my new years resolution is to pay off my credit card, so I will be buying very few DVDs, and very few of those will be new. I'm pretty much hooked on Movie Gallery's "buy two, get two free" previously viewed DVD sales.

At this point, the only things I am planning on buying new are any additional Tokyo Shock/Media Blasters japanese Kaiju pictures and the eventual complete season 2 set of Battlestar Galactica.

For 2006:

- Watch my roughly 15 unwatched DVDs.

- Trim my DVD collection by 20-30

- Keep my 2005 pace of DVD purchases (roughly 5)

Buy the ones I really want when they come out and others wait for Movie Gallery or Hollywood Video Used sales.

The only things I'm buying in January are the ones I need to get in exchange for Xmas gifts (ones I recieved that i already had). I also want to try to get rid of a title when i purchase a new one, but I'm not sure if that one's going to work.

If I can get my unwatched pile down to around single digits, I'll be happy as well.

essentially, I'm not allowing myself to buy ANY DVDs unless:
a) I'm adding onto an on-going series that I've already started collecting (ie: 24, Simpsons, Oz, Lost, etc.)
b) I'm adding onto my "director" collections (ie: Lynch, Cronenberg, etc.)
c) if purchasing a single movie, the price I'm paying has to be below $10 CAD, OR below the supplier's cost.
d) I can purchase "new" titles (that don't fit the above criteria) when my "unwatched" list is down to zero.

My own is to not buy anything post-1990 (my own collection is ridiculously favorable to films from the last 15 yrs) unless it is something from the AFI list that I need or a best picture winner (I think I still need a couple).

The only other exception to the above is if it is a new release that I really have to have (like Narnia or Kong).

Other than that, I want to keep working on collecting the AFI Top 100 list.

For the last 5 years I tell myself the same thing, do not spend over $100 a month on DVDs and every year I blow it the first month. I give up. I will buy what I want and when I want. I will try to wait till some of my wants go into the 'Used' market so I pay under $10. I will stick with my favorite genre, science fiction, because that is what I watch. I will not pay more than $50 for a Star Trek season. It may take me a long time to get all of DS9 but it will happen. I was able to do it with the X-files. I will not buy old 60s or 70s and some 80s TV shows because they were really bad, there are a few exceptions but my odds have run to 50/50 and that isn't good.

Mine will probably be to stay of out the Walmart Bargain bins. True they are cheap but I often wind up buying films I will only watch once or that are not must haves that I have already seen.

Try to slow down some on release day unless it's something I must have like Narnia or King Kong.

Do more research and try to forsee when they are going to bring double dips out.

Saving money for downpayment so we can move into a home with a walkout basement this summer leading to..............................the development of my long dreamed of home theater room

Hey, this is exactly what I've already started doing as of about November '05. Not exactly a New Year's resolution, but almost. I've got a growing list of titles I'd like to pick up (I add them on release day). I'm keeping an eye out for them used or will wait until they are discounted like you say.

Of course there will be exceptions-- but few.

I've also stared this one:

3) Don't double dip on re-releases of titles-- wait until the eventual release on an HD format.

Stop double dipping which i am doing and rent before i purchase.

1. To rent more
2. No more blind buys (hence rent more)
3. Buy movies with good replay value (ex. King Kong, Star Wars, Batman)
4. Utilize my Tivo more which will hopefully help reduce my complusive need to shop for new DVD's.

It's been a struggle since I got my 1st DVD player in 1998, so hopefully these guidlines will help with saving more money.

I'm already a judicious purchaser, so my resolutions are to buy the Art of Buster Keaton, Freaks and Geeks, and finish off the Seinfeld DVDs

Don't buy anything with my own money, only profit from movies I've sold. Shouldn't be hard.

Thought of another one: hold off on titles that can be had through Columbia House. There are about 35-40 titles on my wishlist that are available as enrollment titles there, so I figure unless I absolutely can't wait (Sunset Blvd. may be an example), I'll hold off until I open new accounts to get those.

Buy less. Watch more. That's my resolution.
