I'd give them a
, but the sad truth is if this was a DVD that was just sitting on shelves, rather than selling like hotcakes, they probably would have pulled it.
They're not making a moral stand, they're just maximizing their profits.

My local Wal-Mart had the Brokeback DVDs behind the counter and not on display. That was just weird.

It's very possible some young kids may come in and make fun of it and start trashing them. I thought of that already. People are crazy out there. I wouldn't put it past them to do something like that.

Sometimes wal-mart's around here just keep the new releases behind the register so the clerks don't have to keep going to the locked case to get them out as they sell so many in the first week. Of course, that might just be the clerks being lazy rather than store policy.

Well racism was resolved some time ago to where we can all interact in a social atmosphere, but you look all around you and racism is still very much around today. Brokeback Mountain is certainly a step in the right direction but this film clearly has an accepting audience which applauds it for taking that step. It also has the nay-sayers and haters that will never accept such an idea. It may become more 'acceptable' over time but there's always going to be those who have been judged on a bias from some closed minded people, no matter how much something may become acceptable in a social climate. It's sad, yet true.
It was also quite refreshing to see such a thing tackled on HBO's Six Feet Under as well. That's another topic though

But all of this is discussion for that thread, not the DVD one.

And are reluctant to practice what they preach. This is the reason for my statement!
Oh and btw...you can't lump everyone who doesn't want to see the movie into one group because it makes you feel better.

Brokeback is Number 3 on the Billboard DVD sales chart this week! Positions 1, 2 and 4 are filled with variations on Narnia. I'm pleased this disc is doing so well at retail. I've purchased my copy and I'm eagerly awaiting a special edition at some point in the future!
