digitalfreaknyc 12-23-05 07:01 AM

that's pretty damn quick for a movie that hasn't even opened wide yet.

Well, considering that it will probably be getting a lot of media attention (and possibly grabbing some gold) just two nights earlier, it seems like a very astute marketing move:

<i>"The 78th Academy Awards will be presented on Sunday, March 5, 2006, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network"</i>

Doug Schiller 12-23-05 08:50 AM

You two aren't catching much fish up here!?

PopcornTreeCt 12-23-05 12:33 PM

I'll be shocked if this title doesn't get delayed so that they can list all the awards on the cover.

steebo777 12-23-05 12:35 PM

This is crazy that it was announced... I just saw it last night. Awesome flick.

That'll be coming later as:

Brokeback Mountain -- The-Awards-are-Listed-on-the-Cover Release -- Unrated and Extended DC (LE).

ftsoh 12-23-05 05:12 PM

and will also come with the original novel.

I have to agree with everyone. It's too soon.

Yes, I know it has its obsessive fans (and I did hail it as the best of 2005), but I don't want them to release some half-assed DVD with abismal features.

They should wait until at least late April/Early May.

My idea for what they should do for the DVD as a 2-disc collector's edition:

Disc 1
1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen
English/French Dolby Digital 5.1
DTS 5.1
5.1 Isolated Music Track with Commentary by Composer Gustavo Santaolalla
Audio Commentaries
- #1: Director Ang Lee, producer James Schamus, screenwriter Larry McMurtry, and author Annie Proulx
- #2: Actors Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal

Disc 2
Featurettes
- The Script
- Casting the Movie
- Shooting the Movie
- Aging Heath, Jake, and Anne
- Scoring the Movie
- Brokeback Mountain’s Critical, Audience, and Awards Response
- A Tribute to Editor Geraldine Peroni
Logo Movie Special – Brokeback Mountain
Charlie Rose – 12/7 Interviews with Ang Lee and Heath Ledger
Ang Lee’s Venice Film Festival Acceptance Speech
Deleted Scenes
Annie Proulx’s Short Story
Photo Galleries
- Official Stills
- Behind the Scenes
- Poster Designs
Music Videos
- “A Love That Will Never Grow Old” by Emmylou Harris
- “No One’s Gonna Love You Like Me” by Mary McBride
- “The Maker Makes” by Rufus Wainwright
Theatrical Trailer

Yeah, movies usually get a boast after winning best picture. This should be delayed.

obsess much?

Tarantino 12-23-05 07:54 PM

Considering a lot of that would have had to been shot a while ago, I think you're dreaming, Redux.

Is Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" in this movies soundtrack?

No. Just bored and wanted to create a new DVD idea after that four disc super edition of Kill Bill that I thought up.

critterdvd 01-06-06 01:39 AM

Does anyone know the actual features for the DVD?

This is Universal we're talking about. When Ray was released on DVD, Universal still had it in a few hundred theaters.

Duality 01-06-06 10:43 AM

It would be nice.

However, Brokeback Mountain is a short story written by Pulitzer Prize winner Annie Proulx. At thirty pages, it is not a novel. BTW, since it's a great story and certain parts are not included in the movie, an arrangement similar to the Batman Begins DVD/mini book is most appropriate in my opinion!

Well... I was going to finally see this film tomorrow, but now I may just wait for the DVD and save some $$$

No diss against you or anything, but you have to wonder why studios are confused on why theater box office take ins are lower than previous years. If you announce a DVD release of a film that hasn't even opened wide yet you are bound to have the folks just wait and shift all their potential movie bucks to DVD instead of having them spend money on both a theater ticket and DVD.

Either way, I can't wait to own this film. It's top on my list of favorite films of last year.

No shit!

In the end... Studios will be killing the Box Office, not the Pirates!

Libby 01-06-06 04:34 PM
