I loved both movies, but I'm not gonna expect much from Paramount on this. They have been making films for 95+ years, and only have a handfull of 2-disc special collectors editions? They will probably live up to thier reputation as the studio with the cheapest packaging and non existent special features. As for Paramount giving away free movie tickets--Dream on. I can't be the only one that feels that way? They really do have some great films and big stars, its almost like they diss themseleves with their cheap ass dvds.

When I read comments about how bad and featureless Paramount dvds are, I think it's 1999. Every title they release now always has features and usually good audio and video. You can release a title as a 1-disc and it can still be a great dvd.

Some of their notable dvd titles:
Titanic: SE
Top Gun: SE
The Godfather Collection
The Adventures of Indiana Jones
Beverly Hill's Cop: SE
Deep Impact: SE
The Italian Job: SE
Tomb Raider: SE
The Longest Yard: SE
Forrest Gump: SE
Four Brothers: SE
Hustle and Flow: SE
Narc
Serpico
The Truman Show: SE
The Nutty Professor: SE
Tommy Boy: SE
Friday the 13th: Ultimate Edition
Star Trek 2-disc releases
War of the Worlds: SCE
the upcoming Ten Commandments: 3-Disc set

Yeah, they don't release 2-disc titles as frequently as Warner Bros. or Fox, but they usually don't force that many double dips either. I think they're consistent.

I would be happy with simply an anamorphic enhancement. That fact alone qualifies a double dip to me. Extras are certainly welcomed, but are probably viewed like one time at best (by me at least). After MI3 comes out, and assuming it is a good flick, I wonder if Paramount would offer a box separately to house all three discs?

If it's anamorphic, I'll buy it.

I've been waiting for years to get an anamorphic transfer, so I'll double dip this one.

Part 3 should do huge numbers as it kicks off the Summer season. Plus, Phillip Seymour Hoffman is the bad guy.

From dvdactive.com:

Title: Mission Impossible
Starring: Tom Cruise
Released: 11th April 2006
SRP: Around $19.99

Further Details:

Paramount Home Entertainment has sent over artwork for a new collector's edition of Mission Impossible which stars Tom Cruise, Jon Voight, Ving Rhames and Emmanuelle Beart. The disc will be available to own from the 11th April, and should retail at around $19.99. I'm afraid we have no word on extra material for this one yet, but you can almost certainly expect a nice new anamorphic widescreen transfer. We'll bring you the full spec rundown shortly. For now though, here's the first look at the official package art:

Good stuff. I've held off on buying the initial release for so long! I almost didn't expect this.

Anyone else think it's funny that "TOM CRUISE!" is bigger than the film title? I'll be buying it regardless, but it made me chuckle...

"What movie is this, sister momma?"
"I dunno, but it's got that boy Tom Cruise in it! Wait, does this have them black bars on it?"

Surprisingly nice cover art...really looking forward to the feature/spec listing. My guess: no commentary. I don't think Brian DePalma has ever done one (correct...?). But seeing as how it's Paramount, I'm expecting five to seven featurettes on various aspects of the film and no trailer. Still, anamorphic will be nice.

Never read a Robert Ludlum or Stephen King book?

Glad to hear about this one. This is one of the first original wish list titles I skipped over when I decided not to buy any more letterboxed DVDs.

Of course it is, it's a vanity series for Cruise. Still, I liked the film and have been looking forward to a special edition for some time. Let's just hope it is special...

I'll be glad to finally retire my current non-anamorphic edition. For those that remember the promotion, this was one of my choices when the now defunct online company 800.com was running their 3 DVD's for $1 sale back in '99(?). For $.33, the DVD served me well for all these years but it is certainly due for an upgrade. I just hope that this new version includes DTS

Does Brian DePalma usually "do" SE DVDs?

I'm wondering if Paramount will release a new version of Days of Thunder some time this year. Possibly to coincide with the dvd/hd-dvd/blu-ray release of MI3. I'm watching this on HBO now and just remembered this badly needs an anamorphic transfer. A kick ass DTS track too!

So apparently the supposed bonus disc on part 2 is going to have the same extras as this special edition. That's good for me as I already have 2 and I will be purchasing the first film. Is this going to come with moviecash?
