Well, I passed on the first version, and I'm buying this one primarily for the extras, but I'll admit...the way they marketed it is shady as hell.

Hmmm...my copy will be in Friday. I loved the theatrical when I first saw it on DVD. Thinking I will hold off now.

After hearing about the lack of extra footage I will stick with the original release, besides I hardly ever get around to all that extra stuff.

I'm watching That Yellow Bastard right now, I've watched the first two stories already. There really isn't a lot added, a few neat scenes, like Miho and Manute and Marv with his mom.

The odd thing is that there are still a few bits from the comic that aren't in it. Marv doesn't tell his mom that he met a girl. The scene where Marv slams repeatedly into the door on the farm isn't in it (and I could have sworn I saw green screen footage of it).

I got this yesterday and just went through some of it today.

Yup, it's only about 7 minutes longer.

(all the times below do NOT include credits)
The theaterical cut is about 117 minutes.

The "uncut" version is split up into 4 separate parts, here's how they break down:
- Customer is Alway Right: 0:04:15
- Hard Goodbye: 0:36:30
- Big Fat Kill: 0:40:30
- Yellow Bastard: 0:42:30

So, totalled, that's about 124 minutes before credits (each segment has it's own credits).

124
-117
7 more minutes...

Disappointed? Sure.

But, to me, the commentaries with Miller and Tarantino, alone, more than make up for that.

I don't have a problem with this because of the extras, but I can't believe the marketing on this. They should just say "director's cut" and not mislead, which, this is everything but blatant misrepresentation.

Still, I skipped the first disc, so I can't complain too much.

Did they take anything out of the theatrical cut?

BTW, I'll be kind of glad when the banner ad for this goes out of rotation. I had my volume set high as I was watching a DVD, and that thunder was loud!

Even when they're all run together, as one feature? Like, if you choose the option to watch them all together, there are still credits after each segment (as opposed to just cutting from one segment to a title screen, and straight into the next segment...with credits at the end)? If so, it's something they added after our screening. When I saw the movie, we were able to watch it as one continuous film, with no interrupting credits thrown in between segments. But, it was a theatrical screening, so it may just be something that didn't get spliced into our advance print. If they've gone back and added them...what a shame.

Also, your 7-minute estimate sounds the most accurate of any I've read so far. I knew it had to be more than four, but I also knew that it certainly wasn't twenty. Thanks for the exact count.

There's no such option - they are presented separately, and that's the only way to watch the "extended" stories.

The only way to watch them all together is to watch the theatrical verision (which some people don't seem to know is included in this set, and is the version that carries the commentaries).

No kidding? Well then, I'm glad I saw this in the theater. I thought that was going to be an option on this release (each separate segment, the theatrical film, or the full uncut and re-edited film).

yes, but isn't this version almost twice the amount of money than the standard version out now? (or at least $10 more, right?) I really don't care for the comic book - are the supplements really worth the additional money?

Well do you watch the extras? Are you going to watch them over and over again? I would say if you don't want all the extras, the comic, or the additional footage then just stick with the bare ones version that is out now.

i just can't believe they would put this out and not have it be the 20+ extra minutes that they say. RR doesn't seem like that dishonest of a guy and i will wait till i have my copy to decide for sure.

Well, you are getting the additional credits that are not in the theatrical release, which is, technically, extra footage. I'm pretty sure they did the same thing with the LOTR extended cuts, in that there was about 5-10 minutes of extra credits at the end to thank all of the fan club members, and this was added into the totals for additional footage. Of course, there was so much extra footage already that people really didn't seem to bitch about that too much.

Bite your tongue! Saint Peter would never allow that to happen. Gasp!

Is this really RR sayiong 20 minutes or Fox promoting the disc? Food for thought.

No, I remember contributing to threads when I got early copies of the LOTR Extended Editions that if you timed them without credits, they were as long as advertised- that is, if they said there was 23 minutes of additional footage (I don't remember exact numbers) then you got 23 minutes of additional footage. The total run time would be even more extended than that due to the ridiculous fan credits.

Hmm now I'm going to have to decide on which version to get. Is the AV on the new disc the same?

Just "me-too'ing" alot of what's been said here. I've got no problem with a "director's cut" that's only 4 minutes longer (or 4 minutes shorter, for that matter), but advertising this disc as containing an additional 23 minutes makes me feel like the studio/Rodriguez/everyone involved considers me and you and the rest of the film's fans to be idiots, and certainly aren't adverse to misrepresenting the contents of the disc to goad us into purchase it.

I expect this crap when it comes to movies I wouldn't poke with a long stick, you know, "unrated" versions of shitty films marketed so as to roil the teenage hormone stew. I like this movie. I don't want to feel like part of the moron demographic when I purchase it.

i just can't believe that they would include the credits in the total movie time. there has got to be more minutes that someone hasn't found. i mean we only have 1 person who "Says" they got an "Advanced" copy...how can we be totally sure. any pics? i mean do we have more than 1 confirmation that could makes this more plausible? any reviews yet?

There are at least two people who have confirmed it, I'm one of them. I'm not just yanking your chain for my own amusement. The added footage doesn't amount to much. I didn't time it, but 7 minutes sounds about right.
