Where should I get War of the Worlds LE?
At Best Buy, for 24.99 next week, they're offering the whole Newmarket Shooting Script to Reward Zone Members (of course, it's for both versions).
BUT... supposedly at Circuit City, they're saying the LE comes with a bonus disc. http://entertainment.circuitcity.com...d=DMWV94562DVD Now, they could be talking about the 2nd disc, but there could be a third disc on there that comes with more features and (hope hope) the trailers. Now, should I buy it at BB and get the screenplay or, if it turns out there is a third disc, buy the 2-disc at CC, have a relative buy the 1-disc at BB with the screenplay and pawn the 1-disc at somewhere like the Movie Trading Co.? |
Well now, that depends on whether you'd rather have a third disc or a screenplay, right? There's always the third option, which some people will scream is unethical (but fuck them, eh? RIGHT? WHO'S WITH ME?!!?): buy a copy at both stores. Keep your receipts and do a return on one of them, minus the bonus. If the freebie is mentioned on the two receipts, then that won't work...so just return it to one of the stores claiming that it was a gift from your significant other that you'd already bought elsewhere, so you don't have the receipt. I think that limits you to store credit as opposed to cash back...but you're so addicted to DVDs that you're debating between which bonus to take on a new release, so I assume a bit of store credit won't be a problem.

Wasn't walmart suppose to have an exclusive? I dunno...
I perfer a bonus DVD over a book, JMHO. CC's preorder price is kinda steep, $34.99 ($10 over everyone else). |

For those of us who, like myself, don't care to go through so much hassle and need to decide which single store to go to... I personally say just go to the store you're most faithful to. For example, I have a Reward Zone card with Best Buy and love racking up my points to get tons of Best Buy Bucks in the mail, to me, that's worth buying it at Best Buy alone. It's different for everyone though. Some people really like these little side gimmicks, a lot of people could care less. You seem to obviously want both so, do what NatrulBornThrllr said to do, it'll probably work, and you can use the store credit later on.
|
I'm a freelancer, I get it wherever it's cheapest, or whoever's got the best bonus. I also dig an extra DVD over some gimmick like an alarm clock. I'm usually checking Circuit City, BestBuy, Walmart and sometimes Target.
|
I am a Reward Zone member and usually just rack up points. But Bonus DVDs get me every time if they are offered elsewhere. Like Episode III's bonus DVD from Wal-Mart. So, I might have to get this at CC.
|
ceeece, both Circuit City and Wal-Mart seem to be offering bonus disc with this purchase (no idea as to the contents of either), so be forewarned...
|
Thanks for the heads up Filmmaker!!

Does the LE come in a slipcase?
|
Both versions do.
It's quite evident on Circuit City. http://image.allmusic.com/13/adg/cov...67034agkr6.jpg |
anyone know what # the set is limited to (if there is one that is)?
|
Well, hard to say--if it's limited like THE TERMINAL, it'll disappear quickly; if it's limited like the original release of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, you'll be able to find it easily for years to come.

Ohhh, so THAT accounts for the 2 copies of Stealth that were sold this week. Now it all makes sense. |
if you want the points from bb then buy the ltd dvd without the extra there. then buy the ltd at cc with the extra disc and return the one from bb to cc with the cc reciept.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ce/wowbox2.jpg Ooh. This might be one of my favorite DVD cover of the year. |
Thanks for posting the pics ReduxGuy! It looks very nice!

It's not that it's that good, it's just that it's much harder to find than the supposedly Limited Edition of SAVING PRIVATE RYAN (in fact, since the Limited Edition of THE TERMINAL doesn't include the trailer, I think it sort of sucks). I have noticed that online retailers seem to be better at keeping stock on-hand than B&M stores.

War of the Worlds: Limited Edition packaging :rock2:
|
ooh, I likey the embossed slip cover!

Now.. back on topic. I really do like that Cover Art ... |
According to Future Shops website, when you buy the LE in store, you'll get a metal slip with it. Sounds cool to me@!

The 2-disc set's packaging looks really tempting, and is actually a nice change from the basic packaging (read: no insert/booklet, often not-so-nice cover art) we've been receiving lately.
But at Futureshop's price ($29.99 Cdn), I'm hesitant. Lately I've gotten used to buying discs in the $7 - $15 range, by hunting for new/used deals, so I might just add this to my Christmas list and hope for the best. Maybe if they had a one-day price to match that of the single disc, I might consider it. Best Buy has a better bonus, though, IMO, which is the WotW script book. The downside, it's Best Buy. |
Well, it looks like there's no BONUS disc with WotW at CC, so Best Buy on Tuesday.
|
of course buying in canada im sure it will be a binlingual cover so think i may just order from Amazon.com and be done with it.
|
ReduxGuy, not so fast--supposedly (though their website still makes no reference to it) Wal-Mart will have a bonus DVD with WotW, so be aware...
|
Damn--Best Buy is offering the collectible book only to Reward Zone members. Seemed like a cool extra. Oh well. Think they would sell it to me for $.01?
--THX |
get it at a Stop & Shop...$19.99!
|
I know for a fact Wal-Mart has a bonus disc. I went into Wal-Mart the other day and on the security things when you come in it says EXCLUSIVE BONUS DISC EXCLUSIVE TO WAL-MART

Big Worms, what are you basing that on--just the fact that the sign in question only shows a picture of the single-disc version? I know that my Wal-Mart did not sell the 2-disc version of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, so you're likely right, but I'm just curious why you feel so certain about this.
|
Filmmaker, yes the sign. I could be wrong. But I will do what you suggested in the other thread if that is the case. ;)

What exactly is on the 2nd disc?
I can't seem to find any reviews for it. Just a thing saying some featurettes and some west/east documentary. Can anyone link to me to a review of it? I hope they're not fluff. |
I asked a girl at Circuit City today about the supposed bonus disc. She said she thought she had read something about that at work, but couldn't give me a definite answer.
