The current issue of PEOPLE magazine has a $3 off manufactuer coupon for WOTW.

Nethead12 11-21-05 07:33 PM

Thanks! just ripped it from a copy of People...guess I'll use it to get the LE at BB and get some reward points. Like the LE package.

...And now someone who buys it is going to be without their coupon. Way to go, guy!

Then it would be better to just pay the 10 dollars and get a reward zone membership.

I work at CC and we didn't recieve any type of bonus disc besides the tv one advertised w/ Seinfeld. Anyone know the contents of the one at wal-mart?

mzupeman2 11-22-05 05:25 AM

It's better to just get a rewards zone card anyways. A lot of us here on this forum buy a lot of DVD's and it's more than worth it. Besides, you need a new TV? Use your rewards zone card. I just bought a two thousand dollar TV plus service plan and other accessories. I'll probably get around $70 at least in the mail of Best Buy bucks. A lot of you would easily get at least 5 or 10 dollars in Best Buy bucks every month.

ShagMan 11-22-05 07:20 AM

My local Wal-Mart (#11 in volume nationwide) only had the single-disc WOTW with bonus disc, that's it...no LE packages to be found. $19.96.

Filmmaker 11-22-05 08:18 AM

SO WHAT'S ON THE BLEEDIN' BONUS DISC, ShagMan?!

Rammsteinfan 11-22-05 11:52 AM

saw it at Walmart, it had a HBO docu and some Pre-vis dealy. Nothing special for $19.99 :(

E Unit 11-22-05 11:58 AM

And just an FYI, but Sam's has it as well, of course being a part of Wal Mart. $21.99 for both discs. And yes, it's some HBO doc and 1 other featurette. I don't think it's worth the buy.

Mr. Cinema 11-22-05 12:12 PM

Got mine at CC. No bonus disc. What was fun though was I had to go through 4 copies of the LE before I settled on a disc that wasn't in too bad of shape. I continue to be amazed at how poorly dvd manufacturing is. All of these copies were handled by the person, I think. On the edge, the same spot had a similar looking thumb print with a few scratches. The lady at the front would've let me go through their entire supply until I found one error-free but I got tired of opening them up only to find out the condition of the disc was getting worse everytime. Naturally the 2nd disc in all of them was in perfect condition. I have the worst luck with buying dvds.

Still, the dvd has some very cool packaging. It also comes with $3.00 off coupons for "The Island" and "Madagascar".

Mok 11-22-05 01:03 PM

Picked up the 1 disc at Walmart during lunch, I hate Walmart they refuse to stock the 2 disc sets, instead they give you some crappy HBO making of disc. One cool thing got a coupon inside with $3 off of The Island.

Filmmaker 11-22-05 01:04 PM

A different "Pre-vis dealy" than the one that is found on the 2-disc Limited Edition?

ceeece 11-22-05 01:38 PM

I picked up the 2 disc at BB and got the screenplay book. The 2 disc was definately limited. There seemed to be 20 of the 1 disc to every one of the 2 disc. The girl ringing me up couldn't understand why the Screenplay book was free even though there was a big yellow sticker on the cover saying FREE to Reward Zone members. I had to tell her.

jerm_87 11-22-05 01:51 PM

Has anyone gotten the 2-Disc from Future Shop? I wanna see what the metal case looks like haha

slop101 11-22-05 02:04 PM

There were PLENTY of the 2-disc LEs at BB, but, yeah, there were WAY more of the 1-discs, so I assume that once the 2-disc is gone, that's it.

Dunno... screw the bonus disc, I paid $5 more and got the LE, with the book, at BestBuy, money well spent!

Filmmaker 11-22-05 02:40 PM

Sheesh...

bookcase3 11-22-05 02:54 PM

My Best Buy (Boston, MA) didn't have lithographs for The Polar Express, nor screenplay books for War of the Worlds -- nor was there a sticker on it indicating there would be. But I did use the $3 coupon found in Madagascar and $5 in Reward Zone rewards, ultimately paying $16.99 for the 2/d LE War of the Worlds. I figure the book is something that would eventually find its way into the trash anyhow, so I suppose it's no great loss.

Cornelius1047 11-22-05 03:08 PM

Yeah, I noticed the book is listed in our system for this week priced at "$0.00" with a regular retail of "$19.99". So I "bought" one. I obviously can't have a Reward Zone membership, but I have no problem reaping its, er, rewards? Benefits!

Here is the freebie Lithograph and Poster in buying Polar Express 2disc edition at Bestbuy

*Like Madagascar, the Dreamworks Lithograph is limited numbered#

Filmmaker 11-22-05 04:17 PM

Nice--I'll be grabbing that later today; between this lithograph and the WotW script, Best Buy has finally convinced me to become a Reward Zone member.

I'm still f'ing flabbergasted that Wal-Mart still has no reference on their website whatsoever for the WotW bonus DVD...WTF?

xage 11-22-05 04:40 PM

The book exclusively at BestBuy has the same size and thickness of the War or the Worlds LE DVD

ReduxGuy 11-22-05 05:29 PM

Would it be possible to get the disc at Wal-Mart and return it a few days later?

DjRidz 11-22-05 10:46 PM

Thanks dude for the correction! Now what could be the number behind that cover?

jerm_87 11-24-05 08:47 PM

I have a question...on the 4th 'panel' of the LE dvd, there is a number on the bottom corner...is that what number the DVD is? Or is it just some odd number? Its on one side of the dvd as well as the back of the DVD. Hmmm...

TomOpus 11-24-05 10:03 PM

One odd thing... once you take the plastic wrap off the LE (unless I'm missing it), there is no UPC code anywhere.

The Valeyard 11-24-05 11:45 PM

We could compare if you want. Mine was #18427.

same # on mine.

jerm_87 11-25-05 06:36 AM

Yeh same here. nevermind. I also noticed there was a number on the 2nd disc, but that could be the same too.

OldBoy 11-25-05 11:15 AM

so is the WotW LE worth it?

I didn't love the movie, but did like the a/v a lot, but are the extras worth the whole package on this?

uh, why the heck would you purchase a more expensive 2-disc version of a movie you didnt like? So you can spot where Spielberg went wrong in all the special features? btw, i love this movie and think the entire package is great.

Altimus Prime 11-25-05 12:21 PM

If I like the '53 movie and the TV series, will I like this movie? Cruise's nutty behavior turned me off seeing it. I've been thinking of renting it.

Artman 11-25-05 02:38 PM

Hard to say Altimus. I've never seen the original and I couldn't bring myself to sit through an episode of the tv series...looked much better thru my 8yr old eyes I guess. I thought the movie was great - but I'm looking more at the visual style and imagery, which is some of the most unique and haunting I've seen in recent yrs. Rent if you're unsure. Of course, the sale prices will be gone next wk...

The slipcase for the LE DVD has got to be the tightest and toughest to put back on in my collection. You'd think they could give a little breathing room... The book from BB is a huge dissapointment - I was expecting one of those larger 'making of' books.

The Valeyard 11-25-05 07:25 PM

I thought the BB book was great. I loved flipping through the screenplay after watching the film. Koepp's notes were very insiteful as well.

The movie was good. Not great but good. Surprisingly, a very faithful adaptation of the novel....for better or worse. The A/V is FANTASTIC. My living room was rumbling each time a Martian siren went off.

jerm_87 11-25-05 10:11 PM

I got that metal case from Future Shop, it just says "War of the Worlds" on the front and its silver, but i put my the digipack inside that, instead of the slipcase so it doesn't get all worn. My slip case is on my shelf so it won't be harmed :D.

Joe Canadian 11-25-05 10:14 PM

$31.99 CDN is a tad too expensive for me... I'll wait for a sale or something.
