Has a series' theme song ever been used in a theatrical release of the movie?

Personally I never liked the song or the feel of the opening credits. I think it may have been what kept me from watching it in the first place. When I started hearing good things about the show is when I started watching. Maybe the studio execs convinced Whedon not to use it.

This might be out of place, but could anyone perhaps private message me or email me what the "den" website URL is? I've been hearing of this place since dvdcoverart was closed, but have yet to find it.

It's all hush-hush.

Mission: Impossible used an updated version of the original theme and opening credits that were still instantly recognizable.

yeah, Jayne plays a few bars of it on an acoustic guitar when they're resting on Haven (just before Mal and Book have a little talk about faith).

I find myself quoting the TV show theme lyrics more than any bit of dialogue. It is a piece of music both folksy and classical, intimate and epic. I was very glad to hear a rendition of it in the credits.

Wouldn't surprise me, they screwed up almost everything else when it came to the show. Personally I was very disappointed the theme (w/ lyrics) was not in the movie It's the only theme/opening credits for a show on DVD I'll actually watch instead of FFing past.

Yes, I really liked the Firefly opening theme music also. And, like nemein mentioned above, it's one of the few opening credits that I don't race through.

As my wife and I watched the complete series on DVD last month, hearing the theme music told us that there was another unseen episode ahead of us. So I suppose there's a positive association there also.

In the big picture, it's no big deal that it wasn't included in Serenity but I am curious why. Whedon has probably commented on it somewhere.

What I want to know is why wasn't the instrumental version that was at the end of the credits not on the soundtrack? That was very disappointing.

Dude, I was just complaining about that very thing to somebody today. If you're going to have a track called "End Credits", put the entire musical composition there, not just 1:30 of it.
