Too bad they didn't let the marketing department go wild with a spiffier title. I mean, a title like this is too good to let go

Yeah the previous releases have been pretty solid, this isn't really nessecary, but the soundtrack is definetly one of the best ever IMO. Since I already have the soundtrack and the original 2 disc I don't need this upgrade.

Davisdvd.com is reporting that Sony has replaced the CD on the upcoming Snatch re-rlease with a "Poker Kit". The kit consist of Snatch-themed playing cards, dealer chips and a collectible scrapbook. Here is the link for the tidbit:

Yawn. Studios will do anything to get a catalog title back on the display racks.

Oddly enough, I'm still satisified with my current edition. If they want me to double dip, they're going to have to go back to the drawing board again.

I'm glad they didn't. Hey studios, stop trying to be witty already.

I'll hang onto my current 2-disc special edition for now, but I may just get the 2-disc Superbit in lieu of this new version. The SB can be had for 9.99 now.

Well the soundtrack sounded alot better. As its a pretty good one. Might reconsider buying this now. I mean why do we have such generic deluxe sets here in R1?

Not sure why this wasn't re-released in Superbit Deluxe format like the Fifth Element. Now, if they used this packaging with the Superbit transfer, audio, etc. (essentially tossing the two in a blender), then I might pick up on this.

Is it just me, or does the cover remind anybody else of the Layer Cake marketing?

I think it's the other way round. That is pretty much the cover of the 2001 UK release, only this time the people are tinted yellow and not red.

Yeah, but this..

..doesn't look nearly as close to the Layer Cake posters as the new R1 cover. I think the only similarity is the dominant use of the color yellow, which is present in the R1 cover (as opposed to the old R2 cover, which just has the title in yellow). Even the yellow tones used in the R1 are bright, like the Layer Cake posters, and unlike the R2 Snatch cover. What I'm getting at is this: the R1 cover immediately made me think "Layer Cake," whereas the R2 cover likely wouldn't have.

I'm not sure why they're even bothering with a new edition of this movie. My 2 discer suits me just fine.

Is the actual content the same as the original 2-disc release?

The previous 2-disc release says that it contains both a widescreen and a fullscreen version of the UK Version.

The new release just mentions a widescreen version.

Is it the same cut of the film? And what does the loss of the fullscreen version mean? Did the old version cram them both on a dual layer disc and does the new version have a much less compressed ws version?

And how many people are getting the wrong version of disc 1?

I picked it up as my original copy was misplaced by a friend. Either way the 1st disc is NOTHING but the Superbit dvd. Literally fires up and goes the the Silver Superbit menu system. I haven't had a chance to pop in the 2nd disc but I'd venture to say its the same extra's disc that came with the SB as well. I like the cover art over the SB and the scrapbook isn't too bad with some cool pictures, etc. THey could have kept the big box and there stupid poker set but oh well...

Have it, no pictures but the box is about the thickness of the Indiana Jones box. It has a flap that says "POKER SET" and then the DVD & Scrap book slide in next to it. You pop open the flap and a pack of cards & a yellow Dealer Chip is inside just flopping around pretty much. I ended up just throwing the big arse box away and giving the stupid poker set to a friend. All I cared about was the movie and the scrapbook is kind of cool.
