thread, the players drafted a roster of ten DVDs each. Now, it is up to you, the DVDTalk community, to vote on who has the best collection.

The winner of the game will win a copy of The Fly (Collector's Edition) courtesy of UpcomingDiscs.com.


For round 1, all the players have been randomly paired up. In order to vote, you need to reply to this post telling me who you think has the best roster. Your vote will not count unless you vote on every pair!

Players in the game are also allowed to vote. Optionally, they are also allowed to post to this thread telling everybody why they think you should vote for their collection.

So, let the voting begin! The polls close exactly 24 hours after the timestamp of this post (not counting weekends). Match-ups will be listed in the first reply to this post.

Since we're allowed to plug our lists, and since I'm up against one of the worthiest contenders of the tournament, allow me to present seven reasons to vote for my collection:

1. It begins with a sustained shot of Brigitte Bardot's ass. My opponent's list begins with a dog who owns a dog.
2. It contains films by Hitchcock, Lang, Kurosawa, Godard, Leone, and Mankiewicz. I purposely tried, where possible, to select less canonical (but still excellent) works by great directors.
3. The Contempt DVD contains a more-than-hour-long conversation between Godard and Lang on filmmaking. Aside from the subtitle problem, it is exactly the sort of extra that got me hooked on DVD.
4. Many may have not seen Style Wars, but to me, as a New Yorker, it is an extremely important and personal piece about this city's cultural heritage. It is shocking to see the graffiti-covered trains and to think about how much the city has changed and what that means for our culture.
5. My list contains the first season of Arrested Development, the show that no one watches but everyone loves.
6. Bringing Up Baby is a classic, but All About Eve is on a whole different level.
7. The Art of Buster Keaton is a dream set, comprising most of the major works of the greatest silent film comedian ever.
