Early Serenity DVD Details

Firefly - "Serenity" Movie - Region 2 DVD Extras without commentaries ?
From R2-dvd.org - 2005-10-5

It’s barely in the cinema but here’s some extras for the DVD release of "Serenity" listed at the BBFC.

* "SERENITY - RE-LIGHTING THE FIREFLY" 9m 38s
* "SERENITY - OUTTAKES" 6m 2s
* "SERENITY - WHAT’S IN A FIREFLY" 6m 30s
* "SERENITY - JOSS WHEDON INTRODUCTION" 3m 52s

I loved with movie with no doubt, but the fact that there is a chance that there will be no Joss Whedon commentary or the Deleted Scenes that he is always talking about, really pisses me off. HOpefully these are just the features set-in-stone with more on the way.

I really enjoyed this one on the big screen... I'm actually debating going again later in the week. Can't even remember the last time I did that.

I'll be curious to see what we finally get on the DVD... but I also suspect that Universal will milk this for a while to come. (standard, collectors, ultimate editions, etc.)

I wouldn't count out commentary or deleted scenes yet. After all, these were just rated by the BBFC today. These things tend to take a while for all the extras to come in.

I wouldn't expect a concrete list of R1 DVD details until sometime next year. I'd also be really disappointed if a commentary was not on this. I guess we'll have to wait & see. And hopefully the "introduction by Joss" won't be his substitute for a commentary track.

You know, this flick was supposed to come out earlier this year, I was thinking they'd take the extra time and start polishing the extras and whatnot and have this DVD ready for Christmas.

According to The Digital Bits, it's supposed to come out on 12/20!

I haven't seen this yet, as I'm still finishing the series on DVD(and loving it I may add).

My biggest regret is lack of continuation after I'm done with everything. I only have 8 more eps to watch on DVD, and all the questions I have, I just cant' see them all being answered..

They all won't be but many crucial ones WILL be answered by the movie. In fact, I may have to see the movie to pick more clues to some other stuff that I was thinking about. The biggest one answered for me was the origin of the Reavers.

I'd love for this series to either be given a second shot on TV (Sci-Fi Channel perhaps) or another movie in the future.

Wow, that is indeed very fast! It'd be really cool to get the movie on DVD by Christmas - err, I mean in time for boxing day sales I just picked up the series box set yesterday and am really looking forward to watching it and then checking out the film.

Our ever reliable industry sources are telling us that Universal will soon announce the DVD release of Joss Whedon's Serenity for 12/20. Early word indicates that the disc may include Whedon audio commentary, along with at least 4 behind-the-scenes featurettes (Future History, We'll Have a Fruity Oaty Good Time, Re-Lighting the Firefly and What's in a Firefly), a video introduction to the film by Whedon and 6 minutes worth of outtakes. Some of the details on the extras comes from the BBFC website (click the link and hit enter). We'll post more as it comes in.

With studio's now making 80%+ of there profit on DVD sales, it's no surprise that this lower budget movie would come to DVD so fast. Even if it leaves the theater with only 20 million in sales, once you factor in overseas sales, this movie will make money. (It was made for $39 million) DVD sales will be gravy!! The Firefly DVD sets sold around 500,000 copies. If even HALF of those same people buy the Serenity DVD, you’re talking almost 4 million in sales alone, based on a $15 sale price. I know the Firefly DVD set cost around $35. If it can sell half a million at that price, I’m sure the Serenity DVD set will sell just as many being it should cost half that.

I LOVED this movie, and have watched the DVD set many times. I wouldn't get worked up about the DVD specs yet, it's still really early, and nothing is set in stone. There wasn't a whole lot of deleted footage anyway. If you have read the visual campaign book, it contains the shooting script. There are a few great scenes in there that I would love to see in the DVD, but nothing major. A number of scenes with Inra where cut, and a few with Book I would like to see. There are others of course, and I would like to see EVERY frame shot for this movie on the DVD.

I know I'll be buy a number of copies for myself and as gifts.

If it comes out on DVD on 12/20 I'll be the happiest geek in the land.

I'm on disc 4 now of the boxset, and I'm getting angry. It feels like its building up to something HUGE in the world of Simon/River and I have a bad feeling it won't ever boil over. I realize that the Ariel episode answered the "what and how" but I want to know the "why and what is the results'.

I'm hoping I can finish this before Serenity leaves the theaters...

It's too bad that things will never be fleshed out as well as a TV series will provide. However, Serenity is very well done. It packs everything in there in a couple of hours, but it does its job very well.

It would be great to see, but I remember Kill Bill running into trouble meeting an incredibly quick DVD deadline.......if it's on the stand 12/20 I'll be there with money in hand

I'd also like to here some confirmation regarding the second DVD release. In an interview (of which I sadly no longer have a link to), Whedon had stated that five months after the DVD release of Serenity there is to be a "shinier" DVD edition that'll feature everything (like perhaps a cast commentary) that could not be made ready for the first DVD release.
