The Repo Man tin was pretty different when I got it, but similar packaging has been done a lot now..

I imported a the Mei-Ah R0 edition of 2046 -- it's in pretty awesome packaging and includes postcards.

It just looked really odd. So I wanted to look up a review and find out what it was about.

Thanks, Canada!
I wouldn't exactly say it "blows it out of the water." The US release has far superior picture quality over the Canadian version. http://dvdbeaver.com/film/dvdcompare/pianist2.htm

The only real difference in the images is the filtering in the Canadian version, which in fact, gives it a European feel that's much more complimentary to the film. Overall, the TVA set has no rival aesthetics and sound wise. Beautiful stylized, animated menus, a single disc for the movie, a disc loaded with extras, as well as the soundtrack CD.

The "blurring" they refer to looks to be only when the disc is paused, because I viewed my copy just now, in the scene before Brody's character is denied enterance into the pub, and there was ghosting to speak of.

I too have never seen this "ghosting" effect on the Canadian set when watching the disc at full speed -- which is, obviously, all I care about. I'm a happy owner of the 3-disc set.

This was the day it came out, until they re-released... It still has a special place since I spent the day hunting down video stores and blazing a 30 min. drive in a blizzard... But I got it.

There's also the lesser known made-for-TV '80s flick, High School USA with Michael J. Fox...

If you don't like the original Phantasm, there is no point with the others...

Speaking of Phantasm and "kinda" on topic, I love my Don Coscarelli/Angus Scrimm authographed out-of-the-factory, limited edition LD box set from a few year back.

yeah, but that packaging is just too awesome. but with such a reasonable price, i fear the sphere is just plastic...

I guess my most unique would have to be the 8-disc Infernal Affairs...

Sweet jaysis, I really have to get a region free player. The Hellraiser and Phantasm sets are beautiful, and I assume that we'll never see the likes of that over here.

I would say that it has to be my James Bond 20 DVDS complete collection boxset from HMV Canada.

That's the Japanese Sonny head Limited Edition that's been out of print for a while. Still available at YesAsia (thought at somewhat inflated prices).
Not quite sure, but I seem to remember the set with the Sonny head being released in some European countries as well, just like the Alien Quad head.

It's back in stock at Amazon Japan, and at 50% off (slightly less than USD90 including shipping).
