What a wonderful tribute it would be to the memory of Christopher Reeve if this movie could have been restored to it's original running time.

What the real shame is, they didn't find a better direction in which to go after the first two movies; if I recall correctly, Reeve initially signed a deal to do like 7 Superman movies when he did the first one. III has it's moments, but the thing is so campy it's hard to push them out of the way.....

O'Toole gave Lana some class and allowed the audience to see Clark as admired for who he was as a person rather than having to be Superman in order to be considered more than a schmuck.
I really hope that Lois doesn't have a kid in SUPERMAN RETURNS.

Double dips on single discs I dont mind, but when they double dip on BOX SETS that gets annoying. I own both the Superman Collection and Batman Legacy now they come out with better sets for both (not to mention teh Rocky box set, which I did double dip on). Cant even ebay them because theyll only sell for $20 at most. They should give a nice discount on the new sets with a proof of purchase from the old ones.

Great! Gonna double dip on the sequel SE's. My Superman SE is in snapper case and the sequel SE's will likely be in keepcases though. Probably have to keep the whole Superman collection box and place the sequel SE's next to it.

It's hard to believe how bad SUPERMAN III is compared to the previous movies. However, The San Jose Mercury News and Time Magazine did give it a rave when it first premiered.

The only good thing about Superman III - and the one reason I own it - is the Evil Superman vs. Clark Kent battle in the junkyard. The rest is just an embarassing mess. IV has no redeeming qualities whatsoever (and I doubt the deleted footage would somehow magically transform it into a decent film).

To this day, I have no idea why didn't go for Superman vs Brainiac in III instead of a generic supercomputer.

However, the screenwriters, Leslie and the late David Newman, decided to go for "original" characters rather than spend time establishing the origins of the comic book villains. (All of this can be found in a STARLOG magazine article circa 1983.) All I can say is that ANYTHING would have been better than characters like "Ross Webster" or "Lorelei Ambrosia" filling the screen.

Hmm... I thought someone would have posted this by now:
From The Digital Bits Rumor Mill:
"Also today, there are online reports from various Superman-themed websites (including Superman Cinema) that Warner Bros. and producer Ilya Salkind have finally negotiated a deal for the release of director Richard Donner's original unused footage from Superman II. This would allow for the creation of a long-awaited Superman II: Director's Cut that would be closer to the film Donner was crafting before the film was taken away from him by the studio back in 1979 and given to replacement director Richard Lester. Donner, as many of you know, also directed the original Superman: The Movie (the two films were shot, for the most part, simultaneously). The idea behind all of this, of course, is that Warner wants to release new DVD special editions of Superman II, Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace in conjunction with the theatrical or DVD debut of Bryan Singer's currently in production Superman Returns. The new film is expected to hit theaters in June 2006."
Make sure and click the link to Superman Cinema (the same site the OP linked to). There is some more information citing that Donner is not going to be involved in the Superman II SE or DC (if there is one).

If SUPERMAN IV had not been produced by Cannon (who purchased the rights from the Salkinds) and even more importantly didn't have its budget sliced and diced, it would probably be less hated than SUPERMAN III. Frankly, I dislike III more than IV, because at least IV had a heart. SUPERMAN III just felt cynical and lifeless. Also, Nuclear Man was campier than hell, but he still beats Ross Webster.
Like others on the board, I am far more interested in seeing the missing Donner footage from SUPERMAN II than anything else. Here's hoping that Warners do what they can to pull this off. Otherwise, we may never get to see it in the future. (Then again, there is HD-DVD to consider...)
