Are there books out there that fill in the gag between Ep 3 and 4?

There's one that's coming out. It was previewed in the latest Star Wars Insider.

There's a series called "Last of the Jedi" for young readers (ages 9-12). Books 1 and 2 are out, book 3 will be out on December 1.

Christ, five eps? That's it? Granted, they're 12 minutes instead of 3, but still...

No, these were longer, 10-15 minutes each.

No, 12 minutes to fit in a 15min television slot with commercials.

Each volume all together is one hour, so the two together basically make a 2 hour film.

I also would have liked a single disc set edited together with 5.1, but maybe next Christmas.

Updated specs from dvdanswers.com
Fox Home Entertainment has announced Star Wars: Clone Wars - Volume Two in which Jedi heroes Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi continue their valiant fight to stop the evil Separatists led by General Grievous. All five twelve-minute chapters of volume two are included in this release, chronicling Anakin's rise to the rank of Jedi Knight and General Grievous' daring attack against the Republic capital, leading directly into the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Episodes will be presented in anamorphic widescreen (1.78:1) with Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 Surround audio. Extras will include commentary by Genndy Tartakovsky and his team of artists, a 'Connecting the Dots' featurette that takes audiences inside the creative process and shows how the series connects to Episode III, two galleries of concept art, storyboards, sketches and more, the Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith launch trailer, trailers for upcoming LucasArts video games Battlefront II and Empire At War, a 'Revenge of the Brick' Lego trailer and an X-Box playable demo of two entire levels from Battlefront II.
Interesting they are saying that it is going to have 5.1, wish the first one had it also.

It's about time they finally released these. The 2nd series was my favorite, and I can't wait to see them in their full DVD glory. The 1st series looked amazing on disc.

Great news, although I would have liked for this to come out before or even the same day as Episode 3.

I believe there has been lots of EU stuff that takes place between 3 and 4, even before ep I existed.

No, at least not before episode 1 came out. Before Lucas started the prequels he wouldn't let anyone publish any stores that took place before Epsiode 4 as he didn't want anything he'd have to contradict when he made the prequels.

There’s lots of stuff that takes place before ep 4 [during the reign of the Empire]

Plenty of books and comics involving Han Solo, Jabba, Boba Fett, and many others.

What Lucas didn't allow is stuff taking place during the Clone Wars and Anakin's lifetime.

1000 years before ep 3, between ep 3 and 4, between the OT, and after 6 were all ok.
