Will high gas prices curb your DVD spending?

I'll buy the same amount of dvds though I may do a lot more business with DDD now than CC except for major releases like Star Wars. It sure will curtail visits to the cineplex, with movies overpriced, concessions waaaay overpriced & a trip to the theater now costing an arm and a leg it'll take a Harry Potter, Narnia, Spider-Man 3 or the like to get me to go there anymore. If they think box office was bad this summer I think that theaters aint seen nothin' yet.

I will definately cut out buying comic books, and have resolved this month is the last month I will buy them, and I am seriously thinking about cutting my cable TV off and just keeping the bare miminum for just the local channels. As for DVD buying....I will certainly be making fewer impulse purchases, and buying titles I am only interested in. I will have to stick with the essentials.
Sure, right now, it's only gas prices that are going up, but wait until winter when our heating bills are through the roof and beyond your planned budget, and just wait for shipping charges to go up (making me wonder if amazon.com and DDDVD will continue to offer free shipping?) and this will drive up the price of what we eat. This isn't just gas going up, folks, it's time to think about some major life style changes to adapt for the changes coming in the near future.

Yes and No,it's not really because of gas but im saveing up for a ride(something that gets me more then 18 miles to the gallon),but ive slowed down anyways but still buy at least 1 title a week.

My work pays for all the gas in my company car. For the time being I'm immune. Eventually the cost will cause problems at work which will cost me in other ways, like my year end bonus. Lately I've been doing the Blockbuster rental anyway so I've already cut way back.

There isnt much i want to purchase on DVD in the coming months anyway (a handful of DVD's at most).
But i have now had to adopt a "purchase online" policy. Riding the bike to the bank and/or post office is free and $6 pays more for shipping than it does gas.

It's not about whether or not you're driving to a B&M store for a movie.
It's about whether or not driving in general (to anywhere) is making less money--disposable income--available for fun stuff like DVDs

I'm sure it will. I set aside fifty dollars for gas a week, and usually I end up having twenty left over by the time my next weeks paycheck arrives, and of course, that goes towards a DVD. To me since I intended to use it for gas, it is extra spending money. With gas now, I'm likely to use that fifty in a week. And eventually who knows if more is needed, considering they say here at least in New York, prices may go up to $4 by the end of the month... and that's just insane! It was just what, five years ago that everybodies problem was seeing the gas prices go up to TWO dollars. NOW it's being considered for four? Absolutely nuts. Enough of that tangent though, yes, it will effect it. You don't NEED DVD's, but you NEED gas.

My DVD purchases have already dropped considerably since the last DDD sale. There is a lot of stuff I like to buy but I have too many DVDs to watch. I think that is slowing me down more than the gas prices. Also I find myself pre-ordering less, and waiting until there is a price drop or a great sale to buy DVDs I want now. However, if the price of gas starts causing a significant increase in cost of other goods and services that are a necessity it most likely will have a significant impact on my future DVD purchases.

In the UK, we pay the equivalent of about $8 per gallon for our car fuel. (and it's probably going to rise) If I was paying the “shocking” sums “inflicted” upon the USA, then I’d go on a DVD shopping spree, not restrict my spending!

Perhaps the original post should have phrased the question the other way around.

I really havent bought any DVDs offline in awhile.
But today I was out and decided to buy now instead of driving around later. I got Married with Children S4 for $17, Sin City for $11, Sahara for $15 and the new Opeth for $10.
I wont be buying much for awhile and like someone here said; I wont be making my monthy round of the Pawn Shops. Dammit

Depends on how high the prices go. After three days, they seem to have leveled at about 3.20 - 3.30 in my area. I wouldn't consider this serious enough to worry about it. Though, I might actually reconsider longer distance trips than I would otherwise at this point.
As far as DVD purchases .. no. I just shelled out more than $200 for a couple of Japanese R2 limited edition sets this week. And I don't see any signs of stopping just yet.
Just about all of my purchasing is online these days anyway, so I would compare the offset pricing to expended gas for driving under normal conditions only .. not additional trips to purchase DVDs. That would be negligible anyway ... as would most of the responses to the OP's original question when you think about it.

I only buy, on average, one DVD every couple of months....so, no, it won't make a difference to me. However, due to my drive to-and-from work, gas is costing me $260.00 a month (before it went above $3.00).
