The 40 Year-Old Virgin 12.20.05
thought you guys would dig this. thanks again to Patrick for his great website
from davisdvd The 40 Year-Old Virgin This weekend's #1 film The 40 Year-Old Virgin is due on DVD from Universal Studios on December 20th, according to freezedriedmovies.com. The disc, which already has been completed, reportedly is going to be packed with extras including commentary tracks, deleted scenes and extended takes, featurettes and more. Director Judd Apatow certainly doesn't skimp on extras - "Freaks & Geeks" and "Undeclared" anyone? - so you know this one will be good. Also don't be surprised if they spring an "uncut" edition on us since this is one of those films that studios just love to extend on DVD. All I ask is keep the poster artwork. Thanks to Brad Miska for the tip. |
LOL, that was quick. Nice to get it in time for the holidays.
|
I just hope the transfer is better than the last Apatow/Carell collaboration, Anchorman.

I've heard the extended cut is 20 minutes longer....hope that is on the inital release. I can't wait to get this for Christmas!

I assume they'll also be a SE released in the spring. Still, I'll probably pick this one up.
|
I think this may be the extended...I read an interview that said the man finished the dvd already. I hope they put both versions on it because I'm not sure the movie would benefit with a +20 on the runtime.

Looks like a good gift to get for Christmas. I'll be putting it on my list.

I wouldn't be shocked if Universal gives us a full-frame DVD-9 for the R-rated edition (which seems to be their practice) and a DVD-14 or 18 for the Unrated version at the same time. It also helps the case since since some of the extras Apatow has hinted at being completed (including a much longer and raunchier version of the speed dating scene) probably couldn't be included on the R-rated disc. |

An unrated/extended release would be a nice for a change. I have not seen this at the theater but several friends have actually gone multiple times and enjoyed the humor more and more with each trip.

I was half-joking since it seems to be the trend these days. Still, looking forward to the Unrated, although I hope the dvd has both. Frankly, I'd be happy with either. |
Most dvds are completed before they're even released in the theatres ...
|
Cool news!

S**tty Movie!!! :horsepoo:

Not so quick, 3-4mos is the norm now.

Quick news. I agree, keep the poster art!

it's not a shit*y movie, it's a masterpiece - go see it!
|
Perfect to sandwich between "freeks and geeks" and "undeclared"

Too bad Universal hates creating multi-disc sets, so all we're probably going to see is a one-disc (either DVD-9, 14, or 18) for this flick. :( |
From DVDAnswers...
Title: The 40-Year-Old Virgin Starring: Steve Carell Released: 13th December 2005 SRP: $29.98 Further Details Universal has provided us with early details on The 40-Year-Old Virgin which stars the likes of Steve Carell, Catherine Keener and Paul Rudd. This brand new comedy will be available to own in seperate rated, and unrated editions from the 13th December this year, priced at around $29.98 a piece. The 1 hour 57 minute rated cut will be available to own in full frame only, whereas the unrated edition will carry an anamorphic widescreen transfer, along with an extra sixteen minutes of footage. Both discs will carry English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround tracks. We'll bring you further details on this one shortly. |
Hmm...i thought this was just the right length (if maybe 5 minutes too long) in theaters. I don't know if I can stand another 16 minutes of it inserted into the movie...but it looks like I don't have much of a choice.
|
Loved the movie but hated the ending. Maybe they will tinker with that a little bit.
I thought this movie was way funnier than Wedding Crashers. |
This release is just like The Ring 2, where the Rated version is only Full Screen.
I, like most, will get the unrated. But if you want to own a widescreen copy of the Rated version, you're SOL. |
But what if you check out the Unrated Cut and you simply prefer the theatrical version? You're stuck with only the craptastic FF transfer?
What a stupid release structure. |
|
Cant wait to pick this up, absolutly loved this movie.
|
The ending was perhaps the best part of the movie.
Besides the dig at Coldplay fans. |

Other than his friends dancing like fairies/hippies, nothing about it was remotely funny. I wish they had ended it with him Spoiler:
|
Thanks for the updated info! Definitely picking up the Unrated version!
|
Oh man, the only thing that kept this from classic comedy status was the fact that it's easily 15 minutes too long... So now, if I want to get in widescreen, I'll have to watch a cut that's even LONGER??? No comedy should be as long as a Harry Potter movie.
This could seriously keep me from buying it. Too bad. |
I'm so sick of this "Unrated" trend. It's okay with PG-13 movies. But the movie was R Rated and a pretty strong R-Rating it was. All they are going to do is insert deleted scenes which were deleted for the sake of flow and not belonging. It's no director's cut.
This movie was my favorite movie of the year, and I just want it as what I saw in the theaters on an anamorphic video, not full-screen.. |

Explain? Explain why watching Steve Carell sing "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In (The Flesh Failures)" by The 5th Dimension was unbelievably hysterical?
Obviously you are not a golfer. |

I just think you're in the minority on this one. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to write a letter to Universal bitching about them not releasing the theatrical version in widescreen. |
The ending was excellent, one of the best endings to a comedy I've ever seen. First, there is the fact that it respects the traditional structure of romantic comedy by ending in a wedding. Second, in an age where entertainment is often characterized by smug irony and cynical detachment, the ending is genuinely uplifting and refreshingly joyous. I didn't laugh during the ending, but I smiled through the whole thing.
